CULLOWHEE, N.C. – The Citadel volleyball team was defeated at Western Carolina in its first road Southern Conference matchup of the season on Sunday, 25-15, 25-21 and 25-10.
The Catamounts' (6-8, 1-0 SoCon) defense was difficult for the Bulldogs to score on from start to finish, holding The Citadel to a .000 hitting percentage for the match.
The Bulldogs best chance to get back into the match came in set two when they battled to an 18-17 deficit after a
Logan Smith ace. The Catamounts went onto take the next four points and the eventual 25-21 set win.
Outside hitter
Moriah Smith led the team with eight kills, adding five digs. Libero
Samantha Espy had a team-high 10 digs. Middle blocker
Sarah Dobrich added six kills, an .857 hitting percentage and three block assists.
The freshman Dobrich continues to impress this season, leading the team with 46 block assists and 50 total blocks. She also leads the team with a .244 hitting percentage, recording 65 kills to just 25 errors.
The Bulldogs (6-11, 0-2 SoCon) return home for two matches next weekend, hosting Wofford on Friday at 6 p.m. and North Carolina Greensboro on Saturday at 6 p.m.
