Bulldog Men Place Seventh at Coastal Carolina Cross Country Invitational
Conway, S.C. – Junior Jordan Ashley recorded an 8k time of 27:59 to lead all Bulldogs at Saturday's Coastal Carolina Cross Country Invitational on the grounds of Quail Creek Golf Course.
The usual top five Bulldog runners consisting of Kyle Keene, Atom Young, Austin Waldrop, Raeven Lantz and PJ Wasilchak were all held out of this weekend's race to prepare for next Saturday's 31st annual Will Wilson Citadel Invitational.
Bulldog Head Coach Jody Huddleston showcased some new talent on Saturday, running a lineup of three freshman (Marc Eteve, Bo Hutchison and Erik Ohsfeldt), two sophomores (Brandon Rabon and Paul Fleckenstein) and junior Jordan Ashley.
Ashley, who finished in 35th place, was followed by Fleckenstein (42nd place, 28:44), Rabon (47th place, 29:13), Eteve (48th place, 29:19), Hutchison (55th place, 30:07) and Ohsfeldt (56th place, 30:16).
The Bulldog men's team finished in seventh place overall with a combined average time of 29:05. Liberty University took the team crown with an average 5 mile time of 25:15, while Flames runner Zac Edwards also brought home the individual trophy, recording a time of 24:42.
The Citadel men and women's cross country will now prepare for the 31st Annual Will Wilson Citadel Invitational, which will take place next Saturday, Sept. 24 at James Island County Park in Charleston, S.C. The race is in memory of fallen Bulldog runner Will Wilson, who was tragically killed in a hit and run accident in Columbia, S.C. on Sept. 7, 2008.
