Bulldog Men Take Fourth, Women Fifth at Trophy Lakes on Saturday
Johns Island, S.C. – Sophomore Danielle McKee recorded a time of 19:21 to lead all Bulldog women, while junior Austin Waldrop earned the top spot for the men's team with a 26:52 in Saturday's College of Charleston Invitational held at Trophy Lakes.
The Citadel men's cross country team finished the 8k race in fourth place with an average race time of 27:34. Freshman Raeven Lantz (Rock Hill, S.C.) followed behind Waldrop to place second amongst his teammates with a time of 27:34 to land him in 21st place, while junior teammate Atom Young (27:44) and senior captain PJ Wasilchak (27:49) finished in the third and fourth positions for the Bulldogs.
In the women's 5k race, freshmen Ohio natives Emily Fields (Bradford, Ohio) and Nicole Ogilbee (Loveland, Ohio) took the second and third spots for the Bulldogs with times of 20:11 and 20:40, respectively. The Bulldog women's team finished the race in fifth place.
SoCon foe Elon took the crown for the women's race with host College of Charleston finishing in second place. The order was flipped on the men's side with the Cougars taking the trophy and the Phoenix placing second.
UNC-Pembroke's Pardon Ndhlovu was first overall in the men's 8k with a time 25:04, while Elon's Morgan Denecke won the women's race, recording a time of 17:56. The Phoenix women recorded the top four spots and eight of the top ten.
The race on Saturday was used as a warm-up for the Southern Conference Championship to be held at Trophy Lakes on Oct. 29.
The Bulldogs will continue action next Saturday in Conway, S.C. where they will compete in the Chanticleer Cross Country Festival.
