Bulldog Cross Country to Compete in Royal CC Challenge
Charleston, S.C. - The Citadel Cross Country team returns to action on Friday when they compete in the Royal Cross Country Challenge at McAlpine Creek Park in Charlotte, N.C. Hosted by Queens University, the race will host nearly 700 competitors and from 35 teams including Southern Conference opponents Davidson, Elon, and UNC Greensboro.
The women's Gold will take to the 5,000 meter course first at 3:30 p.m. followed with the men's 8,000-meter Gold race will follow at 4:15 p.m. The women's Navy will run at 5:00 p.m. and the men's Navy will wrap up the competition at 5:45 p.m.
The Last Race
In their last week competition over a week ago, the Bulldogs competed in the Great American Cross Country Festival in Cary, N.C. The men's team finished in fourth in the 8k race, while the women came in fifth place.
The men finished with an average time of 27:06.0 and were led by sophomore Kyle Keene. Keene posted a time of 26:36.9 and paced the men's squad with a 13th place finish. John Gatewood and Austin Waldrop also earned top-20 finishes as they came in 16th and 17th place respectively.
The women completed the 5k race with an average time of 20:45.0. Freshman Danielle McKee led the team as she finished in 16th place with a time of 19:22.07. Also running for the Bulldogs were Christina Shonbeck and Suzanee Gay, who each finished with top-50 finishes.
