Bulldogs Begin Four Match Stretch at Savannah State on Wednesday
Charleston, S.C. – The Citadel volleyball team will play the first of a four-match road stretch on Wednesday evening when the team heads to Savannah State for the final non-conference match of the 2012 season.
The Bulldogs and Tigers meet for the second time this season, after Savannah State paid a visit to McAlister Field House on Oct. 9, as part of a tri-match. In that meeting The Citadel earned a 25-12, 25-17, 25-17 sweep.
Wednesday night's match is set to begin at 6 p.m. at Wilcox-Wiley Gymnasium.
On Sunday afternoon, four Citadel players reached double figures in kills, including Ise d'Angelo who notched a match-high 15, but it was Davidson that took advantage of Caroline Brown's 28 kills as the Wildcats earned a hard fought 25-16, 26-24, 27-29, 25-22 and 19-17 victory over the Dogs at McAlister Field House.
D'Angelo was joined by Lauren Hurt (14 kills), Rachael Farrell (14 kills) and Jessica Maxwell (13 kills) as The Citadel posted 70 kills and a .189 hitting percentage. Erin Bucherl anchored the defense with 29 digs, while Farrell completed her team-best fifth double-double by adding 25 digs. Also key for the Bulldogs defense were Maxwell's three assisted blocks. Freshman Rachel Keefer handed out 58 assists for The Citadel, who dropped to 5-24 overall and 0-12 in SoCon action following the loss.
Brown led the way for a Davidson unit that tallied 78 kills and hit .237 on the contest. Also posting double-digit kill performances for the Wildcats were Tindall Sewell (17 kills) and Taylor Pisel (11 kills). The Davidson back row held an eight-dig advantage due in large part to 40 kills by Molly Crenshaw. Other solid defensive outings came from Anastasia Owen (19 digs), Brown (14 digs) and Ariel Ley (13 digs). Ley was also responsible for 69 assists as Davidson moved to 9-13 overall and 5-7 in conference play.

The Savannah State volleyball team fell in three sets to Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference foe Florida A&M, Sunday afternoon in Wilcox-Wiley Gymnasium.
Leading the Lady Tigers in kills was junior Bryana Gadis and freshman Christian Lyle, who each recorded four. Libero Bridgette Stephens led the team in digs with seven, followed by senior Nabori Perez with six.
Yeisha Arcia paced Florida A&M with 13 kills. Maria Ceccarelli and Katherine Huanec rounded out the trio of Lady Rattlers, scoring 11 and 10 kills, respectively. Diana Gonzales continued her torrid pace, dishing out 34 in the match.
Defensively, the Lady Rattlers used a solid team effort to counter attacks by the Lady Tigers with digs. Karol Marquez led the squad with eight digs, while Arcia scored seven and Ceccarelli added six. The Lady Rattlers hit a scorching .527, while committing just five errors in the match.
