Frain and Jestila Honored by NASPE as Outstanding Majors of the Year

CHARLESTON, S.C.-Two senior members of the 2010 Citadel Volleyball team, Shannon Frain and Tatum Jestila, were honored by the NASPE (National Association for Sport and Physical Education) as the Outstanding Majors of Year for the 2010-11 academic year.

Each year, colleges and universities are encouraged to nominate outstanding students from academic departments that confer degrees in kinesiology, physical education, exercise science, sport management, sports medicine, and other sports-related areas. Every college or university may only nominate one student from each of its major programs. The Citadel Department of Health, Exercise, & Sport Science, has three distinct tracks: Physical Education Teaching, Health & Wellness, and Sport Management.

NASPE is a key association among professionals involved in physical education, health, recreation, sport, and dance, known as AAHPERD (American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, & Dance). Nomination criteria for the award included: juniors or seniors with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher and multiple contributions to school and/or community service for a minimum of two years during undergraduate years.

Based on nominations from The Citadel Department of HESS, NASPE selected Frain and Jestila as Outstanding Majors of the Year Award. Cadet Frain earned the distinction as a senior physical education teaching major from Elwood, Ill.. Frain completed her fall semester with a 4.0 GPA, improving her cumulative GPA to 3.146. Cadet Jestila, from Scottsdale, Ariz. is a senior health & wellness major. She finished last semester with a GPA of 3.45, which gives her a cumulative GPA of 3.67.
