In 2009, Winch coached The Citadel to a 10th place finish in the SoCon. In the same season, the Bulldogs won their first home season-opener in school history, ousting Alabama State, 14-0. The win marked a school record of game-highs in most goals, most shots (42) and most assists (16). In 2008, Winch went down in Bulldog history as the first women’s soccer head coach to win a Southern Conference game. The Citadel defeated Georgia Southern, 2-1.

In his first two seasons, Winch took major strides at the helm. He led the Bulldogs to their first conference tie against Chattanooga and tied cross-town rival Charleston Southern.

Winch, a UNC Pembroke graduate, completed a one-year stint as an assistant with Auburn’s women’s soccer program. The Tigers finished second in the Western Division of the Southeastern Conference and made it to the championship game of the SEC Tournament to clinch second place behind nationally ranked Tennessee. Winch also helped coach four SEC All-Tournament selections in 2005, including the tournament’s most valuable player.

Before joining the staff at Auburn, Winch served as the men’s head soccer coach at the University of Central Florida from 1993-2005.
