Bulldogs Drop Spring Opener to South Carolina, 3-1

Columbia, S.C. – Mariana Garcia scored the Bulldogs' lone goal when The Citadel soccer team dropped its spring season opener to South Carolina on Friday afternoon.

Garcia, who became The Citadel's all-time goals leader last season, notched the game's first goal just fifteen minutes into the contest when she collected a pass from Kimberly Maldonado and drove a rocket past the Gamecock goalkeeper.

South Carolina netted the game's next three goals  to edge out the Bulldogs, 3-1.

Sarah Katchen, who served over 1,300 minutes in net last season, played the entire 90 minutes, earning 12 saves in the process.

The Citadel welcomes USC-Beaufort and Charleston Southern for a round robin contest on Saturday.
