Bulldog Soccer Inks Seven For Upcoming 2012 Season

Charleston, S.C. – Citadel head soccer coach Bob Winch announced the addition of seven cadet-student-athletes who will join the Bulldogs' soccer program for the 2012 season. The Class of 2016 includes representatives from Florida, Texas and South Carolina and garners The Citadel soccer team's first player from England in its 11-year history.

The additions include high school teammates McKenzie Duncan (Davie, Fla.) and Jannel Johnson (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) as well as Taylor Darling (Summerville, S.C.), Andrea Davila (McAllen,  Texas), Isabel Kulinski (London, England), Kimberly Maldonado (Lake Wales, Fla.) and Samantha Millspaugh (Atlantic Beach, Fla.).

"We look forward to having the incoming class come into our program and compete right away. Coaches [Jamie] Stewart and [Enrique] Rodriquez did a fantastic job by introducing these young ladies and their parents to The Citadel," said Winch.  "They will all be great additions to the school and soccer program."

Taylor Darling  ●  Defense  ●  Summerville, S.C.
Pinewood Preparatory School

A 2012 graduate of Pinewood Preparatory High School in Summerville, S.C… earned four letters in soccer… named to the High School Stat Report all-state team along with all-state and all-region honors… earned the Defensive Player of the Year and Hustler Award from her team… a member of the 2009-10 state championship team.

Coach Winch on Darling: "One of the best players in the air as a defender. Taylor is fearless in her tackles and will add a physical presence to our team. She plays big and confident and may come in and lead right away."

Andrea Davila  ●  Midfield  ●  McAllen, Texas
Nikki Rowe High School   

A 2012 graduate of Nikki Rowe High School in McAllen, Texas… earned three letters in soccer… named Most Valuable Player of the 2011 Edinburg Bobcats Tournament… tabbed with second team all-district honors her freshman year.

Coach Winch on Davila: "Will blend in very well as a midfielder and can play in the center or out wide as well. Andrea will bring a lot of energy to the team."

McKenzie Duncan ●  Defense  ●  Davie, Fla.
American Heritage High School

A 2012 graduate of American Heritage High School in Plantation, Fla… earned letters in soccer and volleyball… a member of club team Boca.

Coach Winch on Duncan: "McKenzie is very composed in the defense.  She plays older than her age and makes very good decisions on the ball. McKenzie will help us a great deal in tightening up our defense."

Jannel Johnson  ●  Forward  ●  Pembroke Pines, Fla. 
American Heritage High School   

A 2012 graduate of American Heritage High School in Plantation, Fla… earned all-county and all-state honors… a member of three State Cup championship teams.

Coach Winch on Johnson: "Jannel will help us a great deal in the forward position.  She holds the ball up very well and is deceptively  quick and makes very smart runs and decisions once she has the ball."

Isabel Kulinski  ●  Midfield  ●  London, England
Merrist Wood (Chelsea Academy)

A 2012 graduate of Merrist Wood (Chelsea Academy) in London, England… a member of the Chelsea FC who which the league championship, regional championship and British Colleges Championship to become the best in the United Kingdom.

Coach Winch on Kulinski: "Isabel is a very dynamic and technical midfielder who plays a fantastic final ball. She is excellent in her passing and can also finish goal scoring opportunities. Isabel will have an attacking role and will combine well with similar players around her."

Kimberly Maldonado  ●  Forward  ●  Lake Wales, Fla.
Lake Wales Senior High

A 2012 graduate of Lake Wales Senior High School in Lakes Wales, Fla… earned four letters in soccer, one in swimming and one in football, becoming the first female in school history to receive a varsity football letter… collected the team MVP award all four years… named to all-county first team three times… All-State Florida Athletic Coaches Association All-Star and All-State Florida North/South All-Star… tabbed as News Chief Player of the Year… currently holds school record for most goals by a freshman (32) and most goals in a career (122).

Coach Winch on Maldonado: "Kim is a diverse player who can help us up top as a forward and also in the midfield. She runs well and will give us some options in many positions."

Samantha Millspaugh  ●  Goalkeeper  ●  Atlantic Beach, Fla. 
Duncan U. Fletcher High School   

A 2012 graduate of Duncan U. Fletcher High School in Neptune Beach, Fla… earned three letters in soccer and two in track… tabbed as Most Valuable Player in the Gateway Conference… recorded 15 shutouts and saved five penalty kicks during her senior season.

Coach Winch on Millspaugh: "Sam will help us right away in becoming more competitive in the goalkeeper spot. She has a lot of confidence, speaks well, directs and is very good in the air."
