Aponte, Martinoli Tabbed to SoCon All-Tournament Team
Charleston, S.C. - The Citadel freshman forward Vanessa Aponte and senior midfielder Nicole Martinoli were selected to the 2010 Southern Conference Women's Soccer All-Tournament Team for their performance in the conference's postseason tournament played Oct. 31- Nov. 7.
In her collegiate debut, Aponte scored the golden gold against Furman on Oct. 31 in the second overtime period to advance the Bulldogs to the semifinal round of the tournament. The Orlando, Fla., native scored her fifth goal of the season when she added The Citadel to the scoreboard, tying the match against Samford on Friday, Nov. 5. Aponte finished the tournament with a team-high 10 shots, seven on goal, one assist and two goals.
In the final match of her collegiate career, Martinoli served a corner kick that was initially saved by Samford's goalkeeper. The ball dropped out of her hands and bounced over the end line giving the Bulldogs an own goal and a 3-1 lead in the first half. Also from Orlando, Fla., Martinoli was a 2010 captain and finished her senior campaign with 32 shots, 14 on goal, three assists and two goals scored.
