Citadel Wrestling Returns Home to Take on Campbell
2012-13 Bulldog Wrestling Stats
Charleston, S.C. – The Citadel wrestling team will return to McAlister Field House for a Wednesday night tilt against Southern Conference foe Campbell at 7 p.m.
The Bulldogs currently sit atop the conference standings with a 3-3 overall and 2-0 SoCon mark after topping Appalachian State in dominant fashion last Friday in Boone, N.C. The loss snapped the Mountaineers' 11-match conference winning streak dating back to the 2010-11 season.
Campbell (2-6, 1-1 SoCon) enters the match after falling to Appalachian State last Tuesday in a dramatic 16-15 contest. A key bout in the matchup will be in the 125-pound scuffle where The Citadel's Joaquin Marquez (11-11) takes on 27th-ranked Eric Montoya (25-10).
Marquez and Montoya both topped ASU's Domonic Parisi in their previous bouts.
In the heavyweight bout, 14th-ranked Odie Delaney will battle for his 108th career win, which would move the redshirt senior four shy of moving into third place in Citadel history. Delaney, who currently leads the conference in pins with 10, will face off against Campbell's Joe Nolan.
The match will be the 28th meeting between the Bulldogs and the Fighting Camels but only the second SoCon grapple between the two programs. Campbell and Gardner-Webb joined the conference in 2011 as affiliate members in wrestling only.
The Bulldogs hold a 20-7 edge in the series and have not lost to the Camels since the 2001-02 season. Since the 19-17 loss in 2002, The Citadel has outscored Campbell 338-57.
Live scoring and video streaming of the match will be available and links to both can be found on the wrestling schedule page at www.citadelsports.com.
