Bulldog Wrestling Heads to 2011 Wrestle for a Cure Duals

Charleston, S.C. - The Citadel Wrestling team kicks off their dual slate this weekend with three matches in the 2011 Wrestle for a Cure Duals on Saturday at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex and Expo Center in Harrisburg, Pa. This year's event boasts 28 participating teams, including NCAA Division I, II, and III squads and club programs.

The Bulldogs will face off against Cleveland State, Lock Haven and #9 Illinois. Cleveland State competes out of the Eastern Wrestling League and opened the season at the Eastern Michigan Open last weekend. Joining the Vikings out of the EWL is Lock Haven, who posted a 6-12 mark in the conference last season. The Bald Eagles kick off their 2011-12 season this weekend. A bout against Big Ten-member Illinois wraps up the action Saturday. The Fighting Illini are tied for 9th in the latest Intermat Wrestling Team Rankings and were ranked 8th in the NWCA preseason poll.

"There is a good mixture of teams participating in the duals this weekend and we are definitely wrestling three quality opponents. It will be a great test, but we are excited and our guys are looking forward to it," said Bulldogs Head Coach Rob Hjerling.

The Citadel kicked off their season last weekend by hosting the annual Citadel Open at McAlister Field House and sending several wrestlers to the Hokie Open in Salem, Va. to compete. The Bulldogs placed nine individuals on the weekend. "Last week's competition in both Opens was the perfect type of competition that we needed to start out the year. We did some good things well in some areas and found others where we worked on improving this week," added Hjerling.
