Keith Koziel Named SoCon Wrestler of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Bulldog grappler 157-pound Keith Koziel was named Southern Conference Wrestler of the Week for all matches from Jan. 27-Feb. 3, the league office announced Wednesday. The award is selected by the league’s wrestling sports information directors.
 
Koziel began the week by pinning nationally ranked, No. 20 Joey Knox of Chattanooga in 29 seconds. The sophomore then won a 6-4 decision over Limestone College’s Nick Shappee as the Bulldogs knocked off the Saints, 21-13. Koziel has now won six straight matches.

Koziel won the award in a tie-breaker decided by the Southern Conference office over Chattanooga’s Cody Cleveland. Other nominees for the award included Chattanooga’s Cody Cleveland, VMI’s John Pope, UNCG’s Mikal McKee and Appalachian State’s Dylan Temple.

The Bulldog wrestling team is in action Feb. 5 in Lexington, Va. facing the Keydets from VMI. The Bulldogs will then compete In the All-Academy Classic hosted by VMI Feb. 7. For all information on the Bulldog wrestling team and all Bulldog athletics, visit www.CitadelSports.com.
