Citadel Opens 2012 Season at Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Classic
Charleston, S.C. –The Citadel golf team returns to action this week when it travels to Kiawah Island, S.C. to compete in the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Classic.
The three-day competition will be held on both the Oak Point Golf Course (Par 72 – 5,902 yards) and the Cougar Point Golf Course (Par 72 – 6,001 yards).
Senior Bree Baumgartner (80.73 stroke avg) and freshman Kellie Anderson (85.00 stroke avg) finished the fall schedule as the only Bulldogs to compete in all five tournaments. Meanwhile, sophomore Erica Pellegrini paced the team with a stroke average of 76.75 in eight rounds of action. She posted six rounds of scores in the 70s, including a pair of opening round 74s at the Great Smokies Intercollegiate and Palmetto Intercollegiate.
"I believe the spring season will bring improvement from the freshman on the team," said Citadel Head Coach Lori Bonacci. "They have had fall semester to adjust to Citadel life and college golf. They will now be able to focus on improving their game and on our upcoming spring schedule."
The Bulldogs will compete in a 35 team field that includes Southern Conference foes Chattanooga, Elon, UNC Greensboro, Western Carolina and host College of Charleston.
First-and second-round competition begins at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday and Monday followed by an 8:45 a.m. shotgun start for the final round action on Tuesday.
