Bulldogs Finish Final Round of Winthrop Invitational in Eighth Place

The Citadel Golf team finished in eighth place Sunday at the Winthrop Invitational held at the Rock Hill Country Club. Bulldog senior Bree Baumgartner continued her strong play in the fall season, carding a final-round 80 to finish the 36-hole event tied for 23rd with a 162 (+18).

The Dogs Alanna Jean-Keith posted a final round 86 to finish in a tie for 30th place at 167 (+23). Freshmen Kellie Anderson and TaKima Butler finished 36th and 43rd, respectively, after finishing with 171 (+27) and 184 (+40).

The 36-hole Winthrop Invitational was contested at the Rock Hill Country Club, a par-72, 6,007 yard layout.

Gardner-Webb (615) held off a strong challenge by host Winthrop (620) to win the team portion of the event. Presbyterian College placed third with a score of 621, while SoCon rival Appalachian State finished with a 623. ASU's Lauren Smith shot a final-round 78 to claim the individual crown at five-over 149. Gardner-Webb's Meghan Allum (150, +6) and Sammy Vass (150, +6), rounded out the top three.

The Bulldogs return to action on Monday, Oct. 17 when they compete at the Wendy's Invitational, hosted by Charleston Southern, at the Coosaw Creek Country Club. For more information on Bulldog Golf, go to the official website of The Citadel Athletics, www.CitadelSports.com.
