Bulldogs End Season with Eighth Place Finish at Southern Conference Championship
Mebane, N.C. - The Citadel golf team wrapped up the 2005-06 campaign with an eighth place finish at the 2006 Southern Conference Women's Golf Championship at Mill Creek Golf Club in Mebane, N.C.
The Bulldogs improved on their first-round score by eight strokes to finish with a total of 676 (342-334). Wofford finished seventh with a mark of 635, two strokes behind sixth-place Appalachian State.
In their final collegiate action, seniors Kayla Bowsher and Tracy Hancock each fired a 77 to lead The Citadel. It was Hancock's best round of the spring season and Bowsher paced the Bulldogs for the eighth time in 11 tournaments on the year. Bowsher also tied for or claimed the top score on the Bulldogs in 17 of the 25 rounds played in 2005-06.
Also competing for the last time at The Citadel was senior Kelley Thorsen, who fired a 171 (84-87). Freshmen Brittany Nagel and Kasey Owens also competed for the Cadets, getting their first taste of the Southern Conference Championship.
College of Charleston won the tournament with a score of 585, two strokes ahead of Western Carolina. UNC-Greensboro, two-time defending champion Furman, and host Elon finished third through fifth respectively.
Southern Conference player of the year Angie Hill of the College of Charleston won the individual championship by finishing six under par with a total of 138. Western Carolina's Bianca Malone finished second with a score of 142.
