Bulldog Track and Field Inks 18 to 2011-12 Roster

Charleston, S.C. – Head Coach Jody Huddleston and The Citadel track and field program announced the signing of 18 student-athletes to the 2011-12 rosters on Thursday. The incoming class of 12 men and six women will join the Bulldogs by way of California, Georgia, Illinois, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina and Texas.

Ian Dean Aikman/Mission, Texas/Pole Vault: Aikman will enroll at The Citadel after graduating from Sharyland High School. Aikman was a four-year letterwinner who earned a personal-best mark of 14' 6" in the pole vault. A team captain in 2010 and 2011, Aikman was a junior varsity district champion during the 2007-08 season and a regional qualifier in 2008 and 2010. Aikman plans to major in engineering.

Matt Beausoleil/Ridgewood, N.J./Mulit-events: A graduate of Ridgewood High School, Beausoleil was a multi-event competitor. He earned a personal-best mark of 14.73 in the 110m high hurdles. Beausolei also registered a career-best mark of 41' 5" in the triple jump, as well as a 150' 0" in the javelin.

Tanisha Lashon Bethel/Hanahan, S.C./Sprinter: Bethel, a graduate of Hanahan High School, was a five-year letterwinner in track and field and she also earned three letters in basketball. The 2011 female athlete of the year at Hanahan, she was four-year All-Region selection in track and three year All-Region honoree in basketball. Bethel was also named Most Valuable Player on two occasions while on the basketball team. She recorded a personal-best time of 12.41 in the 100m dash. Bethel plans to major in Health, Exercise, and Sport Science.

Michael Brewer/Hilton Head, S.C./Mid-Distance: Brewer graduated from Hilton Head High School in June 2011. An All-Region and All-State selection, he was a five-year letterwinner in cross country and earned four in track. He was selected as the 2007 Newcomer of the Year in 2007. Brewer was a regional champion, as well as a state champion in the 800m and 4x800m relay. He ran a personal-best time of 1:57 in the 800m. Brewer plans to major in English or history at The Citadel.

Jonathan Michael Bridier/Newnan, Ga./Distance: A May 2011 graduate from Our Lady of Mercy Catholic High School, Bridier was a four-year letterman in cross country and soccer. Bridier completed his high school career earning the Bobcat Award, the MVP Award and the Future Star Award. He was a part of two state and regional championship teams. Bridier ran a personal-best time of 16:32 in the 5,000m while his best time in the two-mile was 10:18. Bridier will major in computer science at The Citadel in the fall.

Nate Carver/Roxboro, N.C./Field Events: Carver will enroll at The Citadel after graduating from Person Senior High School in June 2011. He will add depth to the Bulldogs' roster in the discus and shot put. Carver earned his best throw of 140' 0" in the discus, while setting a personal-best mark of 50' 0" in the shot put.

Gregory Coggins/Taylors, S.C./Mid-Distance: Coggins, who graduated from Wade Hampton High School in Greenville, S.C., was a four-year letterman in both cross country and track. He earned All-State and All-County honors in cross country, as well as All-Region in both cross country and track and field. Coggins has personal-best marks in the 800m of 2:01 and 16:39 in the 5,000m run. He earned a sixth place finish at the state meet in the 800m and 4x800m relay.

Savannah White Emmrich/Plainfield, Ill./Field Event: Emmrich graduated from Plainfield South High School in May 2011. While at Plainfield South, she earned three letters in cross country and four in track and field and earned personal-best marks of 11' in the pole vault and 100' in the javelin. A two-time conference champion and sectional medalist, Emmrich was also a state qualifier and an Illinois Prep Top Times State Medalist in the pole vault (indoor) and heptathlon. Additionally, she garnered Chicago Tribune Athlete of the Month honors. Emmrich chose The Citadel over Belmont, High Point, Winthrop and Marquette. She will major in health, exercise, and sport science in the fall.

Marc Eteve/Livermore, Calif./Distance:  Eteve attended Livermore High School where he will graduate in June 2011. A three-year letterwinner in cross country and track and field, Eteve served as a team captain. While in high school, Eteve was selected to the honor roll every semester and received teacher recognition in engineering on two occasions and also in chemistry and physics. Eteve earned a personal-best time of 15:56 in the three-mile run and a time of 9:54 in the two mile run. Eteve will major in physics. He chose The Citadel over VMI, Texas A&M and Norwich University.

Emily Lucile Fields/Bradford, Ohio/Distance: Fields graduated from Covington High School in May 2011. She was a four-year letterwinner in cross country and track and field and also earned a letter in basketball. Fields was a member of the cross country league championship team in both 2010 and 2011. She has personal-best times of 20:11 in the 5,000m run and 5:54 in the 1,600m run. Fields will major in biology at The Citadel.

Daveon Goldsmith/Myrtle Beach, S.C./Mid-Distance: Goldsmith will enroll at The Citadel after graduating from Carolina Forest High School in May. In the 400m dash, he earned a personal-best time of 51.45 and tabbed an All-Region selection.

Hiram Hutchison/Rock Hill, S.C./Distance: Hutchison graduated from Rock Hill High School in June 2011. A four-year letterman in cross country, Hutchison was named the most valuable player of the team for three years. Tabbed as a two-time All-Region team selection, he aided his team in capturing the regional and county championship in 2010. Hutchison has a personal-best time of 16:31 in the 5,000m run. He also earned three letters in soccer and two in track.

Jessica Leigh Loya/Marietta, Ga./Mid-Distance: A North Cobb Christian High School graduate in May 2011, Loya earned letters in basketball (4), cross country (2), track and field (2), soccer (1) and competition cheer (1). Loya ran a personal-best time of 2:31 in the 800m run. For her performance, she was honored as the most improved, an award given by the coaches. Loya chose The Citadel over Liberty, Georgia Southern, Georgia State and Samford. 

Christopher McIsaac/Woodstock, Ga./Distance: McIsaac graduated from Etowah High School of Woodstock, Ga., in May 2011. A participant in the 5,000m run, he recorded a personal-best time in the event of 16:48.

Alexandria RoShon Moss/Allen, Texas/Sprinter: Moss has earned letters in basketball, cross country and track while attending Allen High School. She set personal-best times in the 100m dash of 12.2, in the 200m dash of 26.2 and in the 400m dash of 58.7. Moss will major in biology at The Citadel. She also considered Texas A&M Corpus Christi and Texas A&M-Commerce.

Nicole Ann Ogilbee/Loveland, Ohio/Distance: Ogilbee attended Loveland High School where she earned three letters in cross country, two in swimming and one each in track and basketball. Ogilbee has personal-best times of 20:06 in the 5,000m run and 13:02 in the two-mile run. While at Loveland, she was awarded the Sportsperson of the Year award and was selected to the All-Confrence Academic Award. Ogilbee plans to major in biology at The Citadel.

Tanner Shoemaker/Las Cruces, N.M./Jumper/Sprinter: Shoemaker is a 2011 graduate of Las Cruces High School in Las Cruces, N.M. Shoemaker has seen action in jumping and sprinting events.  He earned a personal-best mark of 21' 7" in the long jump and a career-best jump in the triple jump of 41' 10". Shoemaker also logged a personal-best time of 11.3 in the 100m dash.

Ashby Welsh/Galion, Ohio/Sprinter: Welsh has earned four letters in track and three in football at Colonel Crawford High School. He set personal-best times in the 100m dash with a time of 11.28, in the 200m dash with a time of 22.18 and in the 60m dash with a time of 7.36. Welsh was a part of the track and field state championship squad. He and three others set the school record in the 4x100m and 4x200m relay teams. Welsh also considered the US Naval Academy, Miami University (OH) and Tiffin. He will major in criminal justice at The Citadel in fall.

"I am very excited about this year's class and expect that they will give us added depth to go along with the classes we have signed the past two years," said Huddleston. "Coach (Kris) Kut continues to do an excellent job recruiting cadet-student-athletes which shows in our athletic performances and in the classroom."
