Bulldog Rifle Takes First Place in NCAA Air Rifle Competition; Nabs Second at SEARC 4
Spartanburg, S.C. – The Citadel rifle team captured second place in the fourth Southeastern Air Rifle Conference match of the season on Saturday at Wofford but were able to take the team crown in the NCAA portion of the contest.
The conference scoring differs from the NCAA in that it takes the top four marks and adds them together, while NCAA regulations require that the coach must predetermine five shooters before the match and the top four scores from that pool will be added up and counted.
Richard Hunton led all Bulldog shooters on the day, racking up a 570, while teammate Robert Jackson collected a 569. Sophomore William Wutzer (562) and freshman Thor Wright (561) rounded out the top four for the Bulldogs which consisted of all underclassmen.
North Georgia edged out The Citadel for the match by a 12 point margin (2,274-2,262); however the Bulldogs still maintain their second place standing in the conference.
The Citadel marksmen will have five weeks off for holiday break before kicking off the 2013 slate on Jan. 12 at home against Army and NC State.
