Bulldog Marksmen Open SEARC Competition in Dahlonega, Ga.

Charleston, S.C – The Citadel men's and women's rifle teams will travel to Dahlonega, Ga., this weekend to compete in the first Southeastern Air Rifle Conference match hosted by North Georgia College and State University.

The Citadel marksmen will look to fire their way back to the top of the conference standings after finishing in second place to rival NC State a season ago. The Bulldogs won the SEARC title in 2011.

"Several conference schools are in the hunt this year," said head coach William C. Smith. "Our shooters want to win the conference championship and a strong first match will put that goal in our sights."

The Cadets are coming off a season-opening NCAA match against military rival VMI last week where they topped the Keydets by an aggregate score of 4,403-4,360.

Richard Hunton posted the day's top air rifle score of 565. Following behind Hunton was teammate William Wutzer (564), Franklin Wright (563) and Robert Jackson (558).

In men's smallbore action, Jackson took third overall and tops among his teammates with a score of 549, while Nathaniel Moy (542) and Hunton (534) finished right behind the Bulldog leader.

On the women's side, senior Terri Craig and captain Julia McCullohs carded first and second place scores of 556 and 551, respectively, to give the women a 2,176-2,110 edge over the VMI women's team in air rifle.

Terri Craig also led the Bulldog women in smallbore action, carding a 516, while teammate Ashten Byrne finished closely behind with a mark of 514.
