Bulldog Marksman Richard Hunton Captures Junior National Prone Championship
Camp Perry, Ohio – Citadel sophomore shooter Richard Hunton fired an impressive mark of 2,333 to earn a national title and six award points at the National Rifle Association's Prone Metallic Sight Championship.
The Columbia, S.C., native is about to enter his second season with the Bulldog rifle team and is coming off an outstanding freshman season when he posted an overall air rifle average of 545.91 and a smallbore average of 525.17, fourth-best on the team.
"The fact that he was able to shoot a personal best in air rifle and shoot a qualifying score for his team letter showed that the trigger time and focus of the championships benefited both shooting disciplines," said head coach William C. Smith.
Hunton's score is a recorded mark and will count towards his national average, earning him his first varsity letter in his collegiate career.
"The trigger time and experience gained in shooting at the National Prone Smallbore Championship plus the match pressure of winning in his class will be a major plus as we start our smallbore season," finished Smith.
