Charleston, S.C. – The Citadel rifle team will be back in action after a week off as it hosts its fifth consecutive match this weekend at the Inouye Marksmanship Center. The Bulldogs will fire air rifle as part of the sixth Southeastern Air Rifle Conference competition and will also record scores in air rifle and small bore as part of the NCAA Sectional.
The Bulldogs last shot competitively on Feb. 4 when they captured a victory over Virginia Military Institute in a three-team NCAA match that also included No. 8 Nevada. Freshman Robert Jackson led the Bulldog men in both air rifle and small bore, posting scores 575 and 571, respectively.
Senior captain Kristofer Small continued to improve as he fired a career-best mark of 573 to finish second amongst his teammates, while junior captain Julia McCullohs led all Bulldog shooters, recording a season-best score of 579.
The story all season has been the success of the young Bulldog team as their roster dawns six freshmen who have all stepped up to play an important role when needed. Four newcomers have earned their letter in either small bore or air rifle this season. Shooters earn their letters by posting a score of 560 or greater in both the small bore and air rifle competition.
