NRA Finished Up Rifle Club Championships This Weekend at The Citadel Marksmanship Center
Charleston, S.C. – The National Rifle Association completed their 2011 Rifle Club Championships this weekend. The two-day competition was hosted by Clemson University and held at The Citadel's state-of-the-art Marksmanship Center.
"Everyone was stunned by the facilities. The shooters were pleased with the wide firing points and great lighting, and the coaches liked the hall monitors and the electronic scoring system," said Coach William Smith.
The 2011 NRA Championship featured smallbore and air rifle competitions, training summits for all participants and coaches, and an opportunity for coaches and shooters to meet in their sport.
The Clemson Tigers came away as repeat champions of the air-rifle portion of the competition firing a team score of 2,218. Following behind them in air rifle was Penn State University carding a 2,184 and West Virginia University who finished with 2,174. Michigan State's Clayton Peck took the individual crown in both air rifle and smallbore, shooting impressive scores of 582 and 570, respectively.
The shooters at Penn State took the team title in the smallbore competition firing a score of 2,142 with shooter Tonya Kocher carding a 555 to lead her team.
"We supplied a live link of the electronic scoring for the tournament which allowed family and friends to follow the action from home since many of these teams were traveling a long way to compete," added Smith.
