Bulldog Tennis Takes on Wofford Before Commencing Spring Break Play at Hilton Head
Charleston, S.C. – The Citadel tennis team will conclude its five-match home stand with Wofford on Wednesday at 1 p.m. On Thursday the Bulldogs will travel to Hilton Head, S.C., for Spring Break play against New Jersey Institute of Technology at 11:30 a.m., and Nebraska-Omaha at 3 p.m.
This past weekend the Bulldogs (5-7, 0-5) fell to Appalachian State 5-2 on Friday and Georgia Southern 7-0 on Saturday. Senior David Orces (7-4) went 1-1 in conference play defeating Sebastian King from App State 6-2, 6-3. The Bulldog senior's winning streak was halted with a loss to the Eagle's Andrew Dromsky 6-4, 3-6, 7-10.
Wofford
The Terriers (2-8, 0-3) have struggled this season and remain winless in Southern Conference play and on the road. The Wofford netters are currently on a five-match losing streak with their last win coming against Mercer on Feb. 9.
Dating back to 1951 the Terriers and Bulldogs have meet 38 times as The Citadel holds a 25-13 all-time advantage over Wofford.
The Terriers will enter Wednesday's match coming off a 6-1 loss against Elon.
The team is led by sophomore Rob Galloway with four wins on the season.
NJIT
The New Jersey Institute of Technology is currently 10-3 on the season. With a small roster of seven players the Highlanders are led by a pair of Swedish players with 10 singles wins on the season. Freshman Markus Schultz is undefeated at 10-0 while Erik Artursson remains at 10-1 on the season.
Prior to Thursday's match at the Hilton Head Beach and Tennis Resort, NJIT will face off against Nebraska-Omaha on Tuesday and South Carolina State on Wednesday.
This match will mark the first time the programs will meet on the tennis courts.
Nebraska-Omaha
A member of the Summit League, UNO is currently 3-3 and 0-1 in conference play.
The team is led in singles by freshman John Ellis (3-1) who is currently on a two-matching winning streak. In doubles action the tandem of Ellis and Matt Frost remains undefeated with a 3-0 record.
The Mavericks will be traveling for the first time this season. Prior to Thursday's match a 3 p.m., UNO will take on NJIT on Tuesday and College of Charleston on Wednesday.
The Mavericks and Bulldogs will meet on Thursday for the first time in program history.
