Bulldog Tennis Falls to Appalachian State in 5-2 Decision
Charleston, S.C. – The Citadel tennis team falls to conference rival Appalachian State in a 5-2 decision at the Earle Tennis Center on Friday afternoon.
The Citadel netters slide to 5-6 and 0-4 in the SoCon, while the Mountaineers improve to 3-7 and 1-0 in the conference.
The Bulldogs went up early on the day claiming the doubles point with victories in the No. 2 and 3 positions. JC Pauli and Dillon Berkabile ended Steve Lake and Steve Karendal's two-match winning streak with an 8-6 victory. The Odyssey Charter teammates earned their second win and first conference victory as a duo. Peter Bleach and Alex Howle defeated Andrew McKinnon and Jan-Willem Kleynhans 8-5 to earn their first victory as a pair.
The Citadel wasn't able to sustain the lead, as the Mountaineers tied the match at 1-1 with a Zach Bost win over Bleach in the No. 3 position. Bost defeated the Bulldog sophomore in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1.
App State took the lead for the first time on the day with a victory in the No. 6 slot as Lake took down Jackson Pride 6-3, 6-4.
Orces earned his seventh dual win and evened play at 2-2 defeating Sebastian King 6-2, 6-3 in the No. 1 position. The Bulldog captain extended his winning streak to three matches.
ASU took the next three points to secure its first Southern Conference win on the season.
The Citadel will be back in action tomorrow as it hosts Georgia Southern at 1 p.m., at the Earle Tennis Center.
