Bulldogs Look to Remain Undefeated in Thursday Match Against East Carolina
Charleston, S.C. – The Citadel tennis team is seeking its fourth straight victory on Thursday afternoon when the Bulldogs head to Greenville, N.C., for a 1 p.m., meeting with East Carolina at the ECU Tennis Complex.
The Citadel closed out last weekend 3-0 defeating Coastal Georgia, Bethune-Cookman and Palm Beach Atlantic on the road. The Bulldogs are off to their best start since the 1997 season.
The Citadel netters hold an all-time 19-11 advantage over the Pirates since the 1957 season, but have lost the last seven consecutive matches against ECU including last season with a 5-2 loss. Elliott Sperr and Alex Howle earned points for the Bulldogs in their respective singles matches.
ECU will enter the match on Thursday with a 2-0 record at home and 4-1 overall on the season. Joran Vliegen has won his last five matches for the Pirates and is anticipated to face off against David Orces in the No. 1 position. Orces will seek to even the series as Vliegen defeated the Bulldog senior 6-4, 6-2 last season.
