Daytona Beach, Fla. – The Citadel tennis team went undefeated in three dual matches this weekend with wins against Bethune-Cookman 4-3 and Palm Beach Atlantic 4-0 in a doubleheader on Saturday at City Island Courts.

The Bulldogs improved their record to 3-0 to mark their best start since the 1997 season.

In the only doubles play of the day, The Citadel took the early lead winning the doubles point against Bethune-Cookman. In the No. 1 position David Orces and Oliver Dedding defeated Diego Garavito and Santiago Lobelo 8-4 while Elliott Sperr and Alex Howle took down Moritz Pronath and Kip Jackson 8-3 in the No. 3 slot. Daylight became an issue in the match against Palm Beach Atlantic and doubles were not played.

In the No. 1 singles position, Orces went 2-0 on the day with victories over BCC's Leonardo Lima 6-2, 6-2 and Palm Beach Atlantic's Mark Heimberger by a score of 6-0, 6-0. The Bulldog captain soared to 5-0 on the season.

Dillon Berkabile and JC Pauli both split their day in the No. 2 and 4 spots, respectively. Berkabile defeated the Sailfish's' Giuseppe Guarnieri 6-2, 6-4 and lost to Garavito from Bethune-Cookman 6-4, 6-1. Pauli took down PBA's Michael Leonard 6-2, 6-3 but fell to Pronath from Bethune-Cookman 4-6, 6-2, 5-6.

Peter Bleach netted two more wins to improve to 3-0 on the season. In the No. 3 position Bleach rallied against Palm Beach Atlantic's Asti Adams in three sets to win 3-6, 6-2, 6-3. The South African native also defeated Lobelo from Bethune-Cookman 7-5, 6-2.

A win in the No. 6 slot for Jackson Pride against the Wildcats' Jackson 6-0 7-5 improved his record to 2-0.

Because the scheduled contest against Palm Beach Atlantic didn't begin until 4 p.m., daylight became a factor. Sperr's match against Nicolas Coburn and Dedding's match against Michael Tsoi were declared unfinished in the second set.

After a weekend loaded with competitive play, the Bulldogs will take a few days off before returning to the courts against East Carolina at the ECU Tennis Complex on Thursday at 2 p.m.
