Orlando, Fla. – David Orces, representing The Citadel tennis team, fell short in the finals at USTA Clay Court Invitational at Disney on Sunday. Orces closed out the three day tournament at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex with a 3-1 singles record.
Orces was seeking his second singles tournament title of the fall, but lost to Florida State's Cristian Gonzalez Mendez in the garnet bracket finals match.
The Bulldog ace played exceptionally well over the weekend as he defeated three different opponents. The senior netter defeated a fierce field of competitors representing Florida State, Duke and a USTA top junior player.
In the final match of the tournament Orces faltered to his FSU challenger by scores of 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 (2).
Orces and partner Jonny Wong from Southern California were eliminated in garnet doubles action on Friday by the Seminoles' duo of Gonzalez Mendez and João Gauer 8-6.
