Orces Earn Finals Appearance at USTA Clay Court Invitational
Orlando, Fla. – David Orces of The Citadel tennis team has gone 3-0 in the garnet bracket at the USTA Clay Court Invitational at Disney hosted by Florida State to earn a finals appearance tomorrow against the Seminoles' Cristian Gonzalez Mendez.
The Bulldog senior opened play on Friday morning with a solid win over Florida State's Andres Bucaro in straight sets by scores of 7-5, 6-3 to advance in main draw.
Orces entered the quarterfinal round this morning with a matchup against freshman Josh Levine from Duke. The Bulldog netter was victorious against his Blue Devil foe in a three-set battle. Orces trailed early in the match with a 7-6 loss in the first set, but evened the match with a win in the second set 6-1. With the momentum on his side, Orces took the third by a score of 7-5.
With the win over Levine, Orces advanced to the semifinal round later in the day against junior player Gage Brymer from Irvine, Calif. The Guayaquil, Ecuador, native defeated Brymer by a decisive score of 6-3, 6-3.
Earning his third singles finals appearance of the fall, Orces is scheduled to play tomorrow against FSU's Gonzalez Mendez 10 a.m.
