Day 1 Results

Clemson, S.C. – The Citadel tennis team wrapped up the first day of play at the Duckworth Fall Classic hosted by Clemson with the tandem of David Orces and Elliott Sperr advancing in doubles draw. Individually, Orces also advanced in Flight-1 singles competition.

In Flight-2 doubles, the Bulldog duo routed Lipscomb's Miguel Cortez John Tougher in the first round of play with a score of 8-5. Orces and Sperr will have a chance at Kenneth Mooney and Max Coulomb from August State. The winner of this match will secure a position in the Flight-2 championship match Sunday morning.

In the first day of singles draw Orces defeated August State's Jan Labas in a three-set battle. The Bulldog netter went up early taking the first set 7-5, but Labas fought back to take the second set 6-1. Orces ultimately won the third set 8-3, to move on to competitive play scheduled for 1 p.m., today against Matus Mydla from Armstrong Atlantic. The winner of this match will earn a spot in the Flight-1 championship match tomorrow morning.

Unable to defeat Mercer's Arsav Mohanty in main singles draw, Sperr will have his chance in the Flight-4 back draw competition. The Bulldog junior is scheduled to take on August State's Javier Capriles at 1:30 p.m., today.
