Orces, Bleach Earn Finals Appearance in Doubles Back Draw in USC Upstate Fall Classic
Spartanburg, S.C. – The Citadel men's tennis team has performed well in the USC Upstate Fall Classic as the duo of David Orces and Peter Bleach have made it to the doubles back draw finals scheduled for Sunday afternoon while in singles Orces has reached the fourth round of competition.
Ranked No. 1 in this weekend's tournament, Orces remains as the lone Bulldog in singles play. Orces is set to face off against No. 3-ranked Grayson Mills at 9 a.m., at the USC Upstate Tennis Complex. The Bulldog senior received a bye in the opening round on Friday, but since then has taken down two opponents. Orces defeated Wofford's David Sklar on Saturday morning in two straight sets by scores of 6-4, 6-2 and toppled No. 8-ranked Jamie Yanks of USC Upstate with scores of 6-4, 6-1.
Bleach, ranked No. 5 in this weekend's classic, made it to the third round of singles play as he took down P.H. Broyhill 6-3, 6-0 on Friday and Wofford's Graham Duncan in three thrilling sets with scores of 3-6, 6-3, 6-1. Bleach wasn't able to hold off the powerful play of William O'Connell on Saturday afternoon, as the Bulldog netter lost in three sets 2-6, 6-2, 6-4.
The duo of Orces and Bleach will take on Wofford's Drew Supertein and Tom Wood at noon on Sunday in the finals of the doubles back draw.
The Bulldog tandem received a bye in the first round of play, but lost to Gonzalo Asis and Danny Bruce 8-5 on Friday evening. The Citadel pair performed well in back draw play as they defeated Duncan and Walker Heffron of Wofford 8-5 to earn a stop in the finals.
