Orces Claims Lone Win in Loss to Wofford


Spartanburg, S.C.  – David Orces collected the lone point for the Bulldogs in a 6-1 loss at Wofford in a Southern Conference tennis match on Saturday.  The duo of Alex Howle and Elliott Sperr also earned a victory at No. 3 doubles to claim their fourth consecutive win. The Dogs dropped to 4-9 overall and 0-3 in the Southern Conference while Wofford improved to 2-8 and 1-2 in conference play.

In the No. 1 position, Orces earned his third consecutive defeating Tinus Van Wyk in a three-set match. Orces went up early in the match, taking the first set 6-4, but Van Wyk rallied to even the match in the second set. The Bulldog junior then took the tiebreaking third set 10-7. With the win Orces improved his record to 6-4 overall and 1-2 in SoCon action.

The Bulldog tandem of Howle and Sperr claimed their eighth win of the season, defeating Jackson Keith and Walker Heffron in the No. 3 position 9-7. The Bulldog duo leads the team with a 8-5 overall record and 2-1 in Southern Conference play.

James Atkinson in the No. 4 position, Peter Bleach in the No. 5 position and Sperr in the No. 6 position all went three sets with their Terrier foes but were not able to earn a point for The Citadel.

The Bulldogs make a quick return to the courts on Sunday to take on Davidson at the Convington Tennis Center at 11 a.m.
