ITA Doubles Draw Results
Chapel Hill, N.C. - The ITA Carolina Regional Tournament, composed of top teams from all over North and South Carolina, concluded play on Sunday. The two Bulldogs in attendance, David Orces and Peter Bleach, experienced early success as a pair.
Doubles action started on Thursday and the duo, Orces and Bleach, opened their first round defeating Gonzalo Blanco and Jacob Darling from USC Upstate, 9-8. The match was decided in overtime, as the Bulldogs were victorious, 7-4, in the tiebreak. The Cadets were then taken down in the second round of play by Phillip Kloc and Alain Humblet from Appalachian State, 8-4, who made an appearance in the quarterfinals before taking their first loss.
Individually, Orces faced off against Yuta Hirokawa from Winthrop in his first round and was triumphant, taking the series, 7-6, 6-3. Bleach fell behind in his first individual appearance of the tournament, losing 6-3, 6-2 against Chip Cox from the University of South Carolina.
Play resumed the following day as both Bulldogs suffered tough losses. Orces was defeated by Dominic Hodgson from N.C. State, 7-5, 6-3 and Bleach was taken down by Paul Cistie from Charlotte, 6-3, 6-2.
Tournament play resumes this weekend as the team travels to Asheville, N.C. to participate in the UNC Asheville Fall Invitational.
