Charleston, S.C. In the middle of May, senior James Eason and sophomores Alberto Diaz and Frederic Petrilli of The Citadel tennis team were selected to the Southern Conference Spring Academic All-Conference team. Now it looks as though more academic awards could be in store for the Bulldogs.
The 2008 tennis team led way for The Citadel with the best combined grade point average of any team with a 3.6 GPA. This grade point average qualifies the team for their fifth Intercollegiate Tennis Association Academic All-American team award.
Also, four Bulldogs will qualify as ITA Academic All-Americans, meaning that they have made above a 3.5 grade point average for the season. The qualified ITA Academic All-Americans are senior James Eason, sophomores Alberto Diaz and Frederic Petrilli, and freshman Yufo Sutantio.
“This is again such a great honor for out team,” stated Head Tennis Coach Toby Simpson. “I know how hard these guys work on the court, but I am especially proud of their dedication to their school work off the court.”
