In the waning seconds of the game, the Dogs DeVontae Wright hit a long jumper from just inside the 3-point line for the apparent winner, before an official review gave the Spartans 0.9 seconds which eventually turned into 0.5 seconds following a Citadel deflection. That deflection led to the Simpson score, following an in-bounds pass from Drew Parker, cinching the Spartan victory.

Groselle, the lone Bulldog in double figures, was joined alongside teammates Cosmo Morabbi and Bo Holston, who netted eight points respectively.
November 15, 2011 Men's Basketball Bulldogs Basketball Hosts Clemson for First Time in 22 Years On Wednesday night, for the first time since Nov. 28, 1989, The Citadel Basketball team will host in-state rival Clemson at McAlister Field House. The Bulldogs will make two separate trips to Colorado, opening the season in the inaugural All Military Classic in Colorado Springs against VMI, followed by a December meeting with Denver University.
July 5, 2011 Men's Basketball One-on-one with Citadel signee Michael Hundley Among the five post players making a commitment during the 2011 early signing period for The Citadel Basketball program was Detroit, Michigan native Michael Hundley. Hundley comes from a rich basketball family that includes second cousins Sean May (a National Championship winner at North Carolina in 2005) and Scott May (1976 National Championship winner at the University of Indiana, 1976 Olympic Gold Medalist).
June 28, 2011 Men's Basketball One-on-one with Citadel signee Dylen Setzekorn Dylen Setzekorn spent last season improving his game at The Hun School (Princeton, N.J.) before becoming one of eight commitments in The Citadel Head Coach Chuck Driesell’s first signing class. Setzekorn was instrumental in leading The Hun School to victories in five of their last seven games, including three straight in the MAPL (Mid-Atlantic Prep League) Tournament, as the Raiders capped off a 12-14 season with a trip to the NJISAA (New Jersey Independent School Athletic Association) Tournament.
June 20, 2011 Men's Basketball One-on-one with Citadel signee Jordan Robertson Power forward Jordan Robertson was one of two North Carolina players that Citadel Basketball Head Coach Chuck Driesell added during the early 2011 signing period, and like his Tar Heel state counterpart, Lawrence Miller, Robertson comes from a highly-acclaimed high school program. Robertson comes to The Citadel from Greensboro Day School, who has won at least 20 games in each of the last five seasons, including a 30-4 record during his freshman season.
June 14, 2011 Men's Basketball One-on-one with Citadel signee Ashton Moore In April, Citadel Head Basketball Coach Chuck Driesell announced his eighth commitment in the 2011-12 class, when Nansemond River High School guard Ashton Moore signed a National-Letter of Intent. Moore, a standout player named to the Virginia Coaches Association AAA All-Star Game, averaged 18 points, 4.3 assists and 4.3 rebounds in his senior season at Nansemond River.

Marshall Harris, a two-time All-District honoree from San Antonio’s William H. Taft High School, was a centerpiece of head coach Chuck Driesell’s 2011 recruiting class. Behind San Antonio Express Coach of the Year Joey Tate, Harris’ team reached the Final Four of the Texas Basketball State 5A Championships in 2011, the largest classification in the state. The three-year starter and two-time All-District recipient gained numerous accolades, including a nomination to the 2010-11 McDonald’s All-America Team.
May 16, 2011 Men's Basketball One-on-one with Citadel Signee CJ Bray Over the course of the next eight weeks, beginning with James Island High School product CJ Bray, we will take a one-on-one look at the freshmen on the 2011-12 Citadel Basketball team. Listed by ESPN as the 130th at the forward position, Bray averaged approximately 14 points and eight rebounds per game for James Island in his junior season. Under the direction of head coach Stan Wilkins, Bray averaged nearly 18 points and 10 rebounds during conference play to garner all-region recognition as a senior.
April 13, 2011 Men's Basketball Ashton Moore Signs with The Citadel On Wednesday, The Citadel’s Head Basketball Coach Chuck Driesell added depth to the backcourt for the upcoming 2011-12 season with the signing of point guard Ashton Moore to a National-Letter of Intent. The six-foot guard from Suffolk, Va., who guided his team to a 21-6 overall record and the Southeastern Division championship, marks the eighth signee in Driesell’s first recruiting class.

March 9, 2011 Men's Basketball Wells Named to NABC District 22 First Team The Citadel’s Cameron Wells was named to the 2011 National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) District 22 First Team announced on Wednesday morning. The NABC Division I All-District teams recognize the nation’s best men’s collegiate basketball student-athletes. Selected and voted on by member coaches of the NABC, these student-athletes represent the finest basketball players across America. The 245 student-athletes, from 24 districts, are eligible for the State Farm Coaches’ Division I All-America teams, set to be announced on Saturday, April 2, at the NCAA Final Four.
March 6, 2011 Men's Basketball Wells Earns Second NetScouts Basketball SoCon Player of the Week Award The Citadel’s senior point guard Cameron Wells drew national recognition by earning his second NetScouts Basketball Southern Conference Player of the Week this season for games played through March 4. Wells finished with 19 points in the first round of the Southern Conference Tournament against Elon, wrapping up his record breaking career with 13 second half points. The Houston, Texas native hit 3-of-9 from the floor and converted 7-of-8 free throw attempts in the second half, however the Bulldogs were unable to overcome a double-digit deficit in the 85-74 loss. It is the second time this season that Netscouts Basketball has recognized Wells as SoCon Player of the Week, the other coming on Jan. 28.
March 4, 2011 Men's Basketball Senior Trio of Dahn, Urbanus and Wells Unable to Topple Elon Austin Dahn scored a team-high 20 points and along with Cameron Wells (19 points) and Zach Urbanus (18 points) an eight-member senior class put the finishing touches on their career in an 85-74 loss to Elon. Sophomore center Mike Groselle chimed in with 12 points and 12 rebounds, marking his eighth double-double of the season, in the first round of the Southern Conference Tournament at McKenzie Arena.
March 3, 2011 Men's Basketball Fifth Seeded Bulldogs Prepare for SoCon Tournament Battle with Elon The fifth seeded Citadel Basketball team opens the first round of the Southern Conference Tournament on Friday evening when it meets fifth seed Elon on Friday at McKenzie Arena in Chattanooga, Tenn. It marks just the second meeting between the two schools in the conference tournament, with the Phoenix getting the better of the Bulldogs by a 66-56 margin on March 3, 2004. The Citadel’s 72nd SoCon Tournament game in school history marks the first under head coach Chuck Driesell.
March 3, 2011 Men's Basketball Wells Tabbed First Team SoCon Media All-Conference The Citadel's Cameron Wells earned SoCon Media All-Conference First Team honors when the selections were announced on Thursday. The all-time scoring and assist leader in school history, Wells recently became the 20th player among current SoCon institutions to score at least 2,000 points in his collegiate career. He ranks among the top five in seven career categories including points (2,030), rebounds (647), field goals made (747), free throws made (447), assists (480), steals (187) and minutes played (4,422).
March 2, 2011 Men's Basketball Wells Earns Third SoCon Coaches All-Conference Team Honor The Citadel’s Cameron Wells garnered his third straight SoCon Coaches All-Conference selection when the 2010-11 Southern Conference men’s basketball postseason awards were announced on Wednesday, following a balloting of the league’s head coaches. The senior point guard leads the Dogs in eight team categories, including points (533), points per game (17.2), assists (133), defensive rebounds (138), free throws made (132), free throws attempted (160), field goals made (191) and steals (45).
February 26, 2011 Men's Basketball Wells Scores 21 Points in Tough Regular Season Finale against ASU Senior point guard Cameron Wells finished with 21 points, seven rebounds and four assists, however it was not enough for The Citadel to hold off Appalachian State, who earned a 70-59 victory in the regular season finale. The combination of Austin Dahn (12 points) and Mike Groselle (10 points) were also offensive keys for the Cadets. The Bulldogs used their defense to frustrate Donald Sims, limiting the SoCon’s second leading scorer to seven points, but ASU capitalized on 25 points from Omar Carter.
February 25, 2011 Men's Basketball Bulldogs Complete Regular Season Slate at Appalachian State The Citadel Basketball team completes the 2010-11 regular season on Saturday afternoon when it tips against Appalachian State at 2 p.m. The Bulldogs, winners of three of their last four in the head-to-head series with the Mountaineers, look to complete the weekend sweep against a pair of teams from the Southern Conference North Division. The Dogs, who are locked in as the fifth team in the South Division heading into the conference tournament, are looking to gain momentum heading into Chattanooga next weekend. As for Appalachian State, who is coming off a 15-point victory against the College of Charleston, the Mountaineers will honor four seniors prior to the start of the game.
February 24, 2011 Men's Basketball The Citadel Completes 21-Point Comeback with 70-62 Victory The Citadel mounted a 21-point second half comeback to earn a 70-62 victory over Western Carolina at the Ramsey Center on Thursday night. The Cadets, behind double-digit performances by Cameron Wells (21 pts.), Mike Groselle (15 pts.) and Bryan Streeter (15 pts.), halted a seven-game WCU winning streak. Wells, who scored 17 points in the second half, was the catalyst to an offense that snapped the Catamounts 12-game home court winning streak. The Bulldogs hit a scorching 16-of-26 (61.5%) after the intermission, finishing with three of four halves of better than 60 percent shooting against Western Carolina this season. The Citadel picked up its third road victory of the season, improving to 10-20 overall and 6-11 in Southern Conference play.

In front of 4,131 in attendance, the eight-member senior class was recognized prior to the start of the game for their efforts over the last four seasons. February 17, 2011 Men's Basketball The Citadel Hosts Senior Night on Thursday Against CofC The Citadel Basketball team makes its final appearance at McAlister Field House this season when it host College of Charleston for Senior Night on Thursday at 7:05 p.m. The 86th installment of the city rivalry will also be 'Blue Out' night, where fans are encouraged to wear blue in support of the Bulldogs. The eight-member senior class will be recognized for their contributions to the program over the last four years of their career. Prior to the start of the game there will be a special awards presentation taking place to show appreciation for their efforts.
February 15, 2011 Men's Basketball Urbanus Climbs to 10th Among Bulldogs All-Time Scorers in Tough Loss Zach Urbanus scored a team-high 17 points and in the process moved to 10th place on The Citadel's all-time scoring list, however Savannah State earned its first victory in the series, 65-61 in overtime. Also reaching double figures for the Bulldogs was Mike Groselle, who finished with 15 points. It is the first overtime session for the Cadets since a meeting with Davidson on Jan. 30, 2010.

February 14, 2011 Men's Basketball The Citadel Prepares For Non-Conference Meeting with Savannah State The Citadel Basketball will play their final non-conference game of the 2010-11 season on Monday night when they welcome Savannah State to McAlister Field House at 7:05 p.m. It marks the eighth meeting in the series between the two schools, dating back to the 1988-89 season with the Bulldogs victorious in each of the first seven. Last season the Cadets emerged with a 54-47 win at Tiger Arena in just their third trip to the Savannah State campus.
February 13, 2011 Men's Basketball Wells Scores 24 in Second Half and Breaks All-Time Assist Record Senior point guard Cameron Wells broke The Citadel all-time assist record, dishing out 10 assists to go along with a game-high 24 points. Along the way he became the first player in school history to amass a double-double by virtue of points and assists. However, Elon took advantage of an 18-point lead at the half to hold onto the victory, 79-72, in Southern Conference action at McAlister Field House. Wells surpassed Kevin Hammack (2002-07), who finished his career with 457 assists, to become just the second all-time leading scorer in the SoCon to lead his school in assists, Western Carolina's Henry Logan being the other.

February 8, 2011 Men's Basketball Four Bulldogs Reach Double Figures in 86-70 loss at UNCG Mike Groselle scored 20 points to lead four Citadel players in double figures, but it was not enough as UNC Greensboro emerged with an 86-74 victory at the Greensboro Coliseum on Monday night. Teammates Zach Urbanus (16 points), Austin Dahn (15 points) and Cameron Wells (14 points) also reached double-digit scoring for the Bulldogs, however a first half that witnessed six Spartan 3-pointers proved to be too much to overcome.

The backcourt tandem of Cameron Wells and Zach Urbanus, who netted 22 and 13 points respectively, finished with a combined 29 second half points to key the victory. November 28, 2010 Men's Basketball Coastal Carolina Downs The Citadel 72-64 The Citadel's Cameron Wells 22 points led a host of players in double figures, but it was not enough as Coastal Carolina came back from five points down at the intermission to emerge with a 72-64 victory at Kimbel Arena on Saturday evening. Wells, along with Austin Dahn (18 points) and Bryan Streeter (10 points) reached double figures for a Bulldogs unit that converted 25-of-63 (39.7%) field goal attempts. The Cadets were successful on 7-of-21 (33.3%) from beyond the arc, led by Dahn who took sole possession of fourth place among the school's all-time 3-polnt shooters with a 4-for-10 outing. He now has 194 career treys to his credit, moving past Ryan Nesbit and Alan Puckett.
November 26, 2010 Men's Basketball Citadel Basketball Heads to Coastal Carolina The Citadel Basketball team is seeking its second straight win under the direction of Head Coach Chuck Driesell, when it returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 27 at Coastal Carolina. The ninth meeting between the two schools, in a series that is deadlocked at 4-4, is slated to start at 7 p.m. The Bulldogs, who emerged victorious in the last meeting that took place on Dec. 29, 2001, are looking to hand Chanticleers Head Coach Cliff Ellis his first loss against the school a series of nine games that span back to his collegiate playing days at Florida State.
November 24, 2010 Men's Basketball Driesell, Bulldogs Defeat High Point 71-63 Cameron Wells netted a game-high 25 points to lead The Citadel past High Point, 71-63, and helped Chuck Driesell grab his first NCAA Division I coaching victory in front of 1,224 in attendance at McAlister Field House. The senior point guard topped the 20-point mark for the 29th time in his career and in the process moved within 86 points of becoming the all-time scoring leader.
November 22, 2010 Men's Basketball Bulldogs Prepare for High Point on Tuesday The Citadel Basketball returns to McAlister Field House on Tuesday evening when they host High Point University at 7:05 p.m. It marks the fourth game in the all-time series that dates back to 1951, with the Panthers holding a 2-1 edge. High Point represents the second of three Big South Conference opponents on the Bulldogs will play in the last 11 days, the others being Charleston Southern and Coastal Carolina.

November 21, 2010 Men's Basketball Bulldogs Fall to James Madison in Home Opener, 74-67 Despite double digits from the senior trio of Austin Dahn (18 points), Cameron Wells (17 points) and Zach Urbanus (16 points) it was not enough to stave off James Madison, who left with a 74-67 victory in the season-opener at McAlister Field House. Dahn moved into 45th on the school's all-time scoring list with 841 points, while Urbanus became the 28th player to top the 1,000-point mark in Bulldog history. Wells, who hit 7-of-20 from the field, moved within 101 points of tying all-time leading scorer Regan Truesdale.
November 19, 2010 Men's Basketball The Citadel Set for Home Opener Against James Madison The Citadel Basketball team makes its first regular season appearance at McAlister Field House on Saturday when they host James Madison University at 7:05 p.m. The game will rekindle a rivalry with Bulldogs first-year Head Coach Chuck Driesell and James Madison, where he spent nine seasons as an assistant. It will also mark the first time that the Dukes have visited Charleston since Feb. 21, 1978.

November 17, 2010 Men's Basketball Buccaneers Hold Off Bulldogs 68-61 The senior tandem of Cameron Wells and Austin Dahn, who combined for 34 points, was not enough to silence a sold out crowd at CSU Field House as the host Buccaneers emerged with a 68-61 victory. The Bulldogs converted 23-of-53 field goals (43.4%) and 12-of-17 (70.6%) free throws in their first visit to Charleston Southern since the 2005 season.
November 15, 2010 Men's Basketball Bulldogs Meet Buccaneers in Intracity Clash The Citadel Basketball team returns to action on Tuesday evening when they square off against intracity foe Charleston Southern at 7:30 p.m. at CSU Field House. It marks the 19th meeting between the two schools, in a rivalry that dates back to the 1992 season. The Buccaneers snapped a two-game losing streak in the series last season with a 61-60 victory at McAlister Field House, giving themselves a two-game cushion in the all-time series (10-8).
November 13, 2010 Men's Basketball Wells Slides Into Second Place Among Citadel Scorers in Loss Cameron Wells scored a team-high 17 points and in the process moved into second place on The Citadel's all-time scoring list, however it was short of a Richmond squad that emerged with the 79-37 win. In the season opener for both teams, Wells moved past Art Musselman with 1,514 career points, and now trails only the all-time record held by Regan Truesdale. The host Spiders, who recognized their 2010 NCAA Tournament team prior to the contest, were led in double figures by Justin Harper's 18 points.

Senior point guard Cameron Wells, who enters the season 164 points shy of the school's all-time scoring mark, was named to the 2010-11 Preseason All-Conference Team.

August 10, 2010 Men's Basketball Wolfinger Inks Deal with Astrum Levice of Slovakian Extraliga League Former Citadel center Joe Wolfinger recently reached an agreement on his first professional contract with Astrum Levice of the Slovakian Extraliga League. The 7-foot center averaged 6.6 points and 3.9 rebounds per contest in his only season with the Bulldogs.
