Bulldogs Make Brief Return to McAlister to Face Chattanooga

Citadel Game Notes

Charleston, S.C. —
The Citadel basketball team begins Southern Conference play on Monday when it hosts Chattanooga at McAlister Field House in a game that is set to begin at 7:05 p.m. The game can be seen on ESPN3 with former Citadel announcer Darren Goldwater serving as color commentator.

The Citadel (4-11) is seeking its 28th all-time victory in SoCon openers and fifth in the last 13 years. The Bulldogs have opened league play against Chattanooga on six occasions, most recently on Dec. 1, 2007, and are 1-5 in those contests.

The tandem of sophomore Matt Van Scyoc (14.2 ppg) and freshman Brian White (14.0) lead The Citadel in scoring as league play begins. Van Scyoc became the team's leading scorer on the strength of his free throw shooting, ranking 33rd nationally at 89% from the line (65-of-73). Behind the free throw shooting of the Green Lake, Wis., native, The Citadel ranks 47th in the nation, tops among SoCon schools.

Chattanooga (7-8 overall, 1-0 SoCon) enters the 73rd all-time meeting with The Citadel on a three-game winning streak that includes a 72-63 victory over Furman on Saturday in its SoCon opener. The Mocs are averaging 78.3 points per contest and 37.2 rebounds per contest in 15 games this season.

Chattanooga is led offensively by Z. Mason (18.2 ppg), Gee McGhee (11.3), Casey Jones (10.4) and Martynas Bareika (10.1).

In addition to the ESPN3 broadcast, fans can also follow all the action with Citadel play-by-play announcer Danny Reed on Fox Sports Radio 1450.
