Citadel Returns to McAlister Field House for Afternoon Game with Elon

Game Notes

CHARLESTON, S.C. — After playing their last three games on the road The Citadel basketball team returns to McAlister Field House on Saturday afternoon for a showdown with Elon at 2:05 p.m.

The Phoenix (12-7, 5-2 SoCon) are riding a four-game winning streak that includes victories over Western Carolina, Furman, Wofford and most recently Chattanooga. The dominating 85-61 defeat of the Mocs completed a three-game homestand for Elon, who moved into a first-place tie with Samford in the SoCon's North Division.

Meanwhile, The Citadel (4-14, 1-7) is coming off a 69-54 loss to crosstown rival College of Charleston on Thursday evening. The Bulldogs are looking to snap a four-game losing streak at the hands of the Phoenix when the two teams battle in the Lowcountry for just the seventh time in the all-time series.

Based on recent history fans can expect to see a lot of scoring between the two teams, as they have combined for 66 3-pointers over the last four games, converting no fewer than six treys in that stretch.

Elon has had at least nine 3-pointers on three occasions (9 – Feb. 12, 2011; 11 – March 4, 2011; 9 – Feb. 12, 2012), while the Bulldogs have hit at least nine in two contests (9 – Feb. 12, 2011; 10 – March 4, 2011).

The two teams last met on Feb. 4, 2012, when Lawrence Miller scored a team-high 15 points, keyed by five 3-pointers, and Mike Groselle added 14 points, but it was Elon that emerged with the 71-66 victory in a tightly contested Southern Conference battle. Making his second career start, Miller topped double figures in back-to-back games for the first time in his collegiate career. The Phoenix were led by the offensive efforts of Jack Isenbarger and Lucas Troutman, who finished with 34 and 14 points, respectively.
