BURROWS NUMBER THREE JERSEY SET TO BE HONORED: The Citadel Department of Athletics will honor Col. Jake Burrows' jersey number three with a banner in McAlister Field House to commemorate the Hall of Famer's many contributions to his alma mater.
During halftime of the January 28th basketball game against rival Furman University, the Military College of South Carolina will unfurl their fourth banner alongside Les Robinson, Art Musselman and Regan Truesdale as individuals who have been previously recognized. Another banner reflects the Bulldogs' participation in the 2009 CollegeInsider.com Tournament, the college lone postseason appearance.
The 93-year-old Burrows, a member of the Class of 1940, is the lone member of the college's Hall of Fame who was both Regimental Commander and First Honor Graduate of his class. As an athlete in which he competed for three years (freshmen were ineligible), Burrows earned eight total letters as he lettered in football three times, basketball three times and twice in track. He was an all-state pick in basketball three times and twice was named All-Southern Conference and during his three years of basketball, Burrows averaged 11.5 points per game which equated to 31 percent of the team's total points. In his three years on the hardwood, The Citadel defeated South Carolina and Furman six straight games each.
SOLE POSSESSION OF THIRD: Junior center Mike Groselle continues his ascension on The Citadel's career double-double list with a pair of January double-doubles against UVA-Wise (19 pts., 13 rebs.) and Elon (17 pts., 11 rebs.). His outing against the Phoenix broke a three-way tie with Craig Burgess and Matt Newman on the Bulldogs all-time list. These performances gave Groselle his ninth double dip of the 2011-12 campaign, placing him behind only Patrick Elmore (12, 1989-90) and Regan Truesdale (10, 1984-85) for the most double-doubles in a single-season in Citadel history.
The Plano, Texas native only trails J'Mel Everhart (19), currently in second place, and Regan Truesdale (22) for most in program history.
LOOKING BACK AT THE LAST TIME AGAINST THE EAGLES: The Citadel's Mike Groselle and Cameron Wells shared game-high honors with 17 points apiece, but Georgia Southern finished with three players in double figures in a 65-53 victory at Hanner Fieldhouse on Saturday evening. Groselle also posted a game-high 10 rebounds to finish with his sixth double-double of the season, becoming the seventh different Bulldog to reach that milestone since the 1974-75 season. The Eagles were led by the trio of Ben Drayton (15 points), Zuri James (13 points) and Rory Spencer (13 points) in their first Southern Conference victory of the season.
Groselle improved on his conference leading field goal percentage numbers by hitting 7-of-10 (70%) from the floor. He crashed the boards for 10 rebounds, grabbing three on the offensive glass, to make for his second double-double in as many games. Wells finished 5-of-11 from the floor and was a perfect 7-of-7 from the charity stripe, marking the 10th time this season he has not missed a free throw in a single game. Senior Zach Urbanus led six other players with five points. Bryan Streeter grabbed eight rebounds, including three on the offensive end, and teamed with Groselle to give the Dogs a 36-27 edge on the boards. The loss drops The Citadel to 9-20 overall and 5-11 in Southern Conference play.
Drayton capped off a 6-of-13 performance with team-highs in points (15) and assists (six) along with six rebounds. The junior guard was successful on 3-of-4 attempts from the free throw line, finishing as the only Eagle player with multiple conversions. Spencer was a key presence in the post with 13 points and four rebounds. He allowed Georgia Southern to finish with a 32-22 advantage in points in the paint. James knocked down 3-of-6 from beyond the arc, helping the Eagles finish 28-of-54 (51.9%) from the field. The victory snapped a 15-game losing streak, tying the longest in school history. Georgia Southern improves to 5-24 overall and 1-15 in league action.

The Cougars rallied over the next two minutes to slice the margin to two points with just over four minutes left in the game. The margin would remain static inside a minute until Ferguson drained a clutch three-pointer with 22 seconds remaining. He answered that by blocking a shot at the other end of the floor to preserve a five-point Georgia Southern lead.
The Hanner Fieldhouse faithful were whipped into a frenzy with nine seconds remaining as Baskerville dropped an alley-oop dunk from Hewitt to put the Eagles up 64-57. A technical foul on the Eagle bench allowed the Cougars to add one more from the charity stripe and make the final score 64-58.
The Eagles finished the night out-rebounding the Cougars 40-30 and shot 65.2% from the field to finish the night at 49.1%. The Cougars shot just 35.7% from the field and posted a 29.2% mark from downtown.
