Citadel Basketball Announces Addition of Janeil Jenkins
On Friday, Citadel Basketball Head Coach Chuck Driesell announced the third member of his 2012 class with the signing of point guard Janeil Jenkins to a National Letter of Intent. The 5-foot-10 point guard, who hails from Jacksonville Fla. guided The Miller School to a combined 37 victories over the last two seasons, including a 20-10 record this season.

Redshirt junior Bo Holston recorded his first career double-double, 13 points and 10 rebounds, to guide The Citadel to a 62-51 victory over Appalachian State at McAlister Field House. Holston was the catalyst to a Bulldog offense that witnessed three double figure scorers, including Mike Groselle (18 points) and C.J. Bray (10 points). The Citadel has now earned back-to-back Southern Conference victories for the first time since last season, when they downed Western Carolina and Davidson in late January.

Lawrence Miller scored a team-high 15 points, keyed by five 3-pointers, and Mike Groselle added 14 points but it was Elon that emerged with the 71-66 victory in a tightly contested Southern Conference hardwoods battle on Saturday evening. Miller, who recorded back-to-back double figure games for the first time in his collegiate career, reached the milestone in his second career start. The Phoenix were led by the offensive efforts of Jack Isenbarger and Lucas Troutman, who finished with 34 and 14 points, respectively.

The combination of Citadel scorers Mike Groselle (20 pts.) and Lawrence Miller (15 pts.) led the way for the Bulldogs, who suffered a difficult 82-71 loss at UNC Greensboro in Southern Conference action on Thursday evening. Groselle posted his seventh 20-point game in conference play this season, hitting 7-of-15 from the floor to go along with eight rebounds. Miller countered with a 4-of-7 performance, draining 3-of-5 from 3-point range, en route to his fourth career double-digit outing. Groselle Posts 19th Career Double-Double as Furman Holds on to Earn 67-58 Win
The Citadel’s Mike Groselle scored a game-high 24 points to go along with 11 rebounds, marking his 19th career double-double, but it was Furman’s late game heroics that allowed the Paladins to come through with a 67-58 victory at McAlister Field House on Saturday evening. Groselle moved into a second place tie with former Citadel standouts J’Mel Everhart (19 career double-doubles) and Regan Truesdale’s (10 single-season double-doubles). Meanwhile, the Paladins were energized by the trio of Colin Reddick (12 points), Bobby Austin (11 points) and Brandon Sebirumbi (10 points). The game included a halftime ceremony for Jake Burrows (’40), whose No. 3 jersey was honored placed in the rafters in honor of his contributions to the success of the Bulldog Basketball program.

Holston energized the Bulldogs lineup by hitting 5-of-8 from the floor, including a 3-pointer, while making his impact defensively with one steal and one block. His counterpart, the Terriers Karl Cochran, took home game-high honors, scoring 18 points behind a 7-of-13 shooting performance. Groselle Nets Game-High 22 Points in 67-66 Heartbreaker Against UNC Greensboro
In a game where the lead changed hands four times in the final 18 seconds as UNC Greensboro came away with a game-winning dunk by Trevis Simpson to down The Citadel, 67-66, in front of a shocked crowd at McAlister Field House. In the waning seconds of the game, the Dogs DeVontae Wright hit a long jumper from just inside the 3-point line for the apparent winner, before an official review gave the Spartans 0.9 seconds which eventually turned into 0.5 seconds following a Citadel deflection. That deflection led to the Simpson score, following an in-bounds pass from Drew Parker, cinching the Spartan victory.

The tandem of Mike Groselle and Cosmo Morabbi accounted for 45 points as The Citadel won their first Southern Conference game of the season, 73-62, over Samford on Saturday evening. Groselle scored 25 points to tie his career-high and by virtue of finishing 10-for-10 from the floor set a program record that was previously held by John Sutor and Ted Mosay for highest field goal percentage. Meanwhile, Morabbi established a new career-high, 20 points, to go along with six assists and four steals. It marks the third time in the last five games that Morabbi has topped double figures for the Dogs.

Citadel freshman Ashton Moore poured in a game-high 30 points as the Bulldogs snapped an eight-game losing streak with a 91-74 victory over UVA-Wise at McAlister Field House on Monday evening. Moore became the first Cadet to net 30 points in a contest since Cameron Wells accomplished the feat on Feb. 12, 2009 against Appalachian State. Teammate Mike Groselle further embedded himself in Citadel history with a 19-point, 13-rebound performance to tie Matt Newman and Craig Burgess for third place with 16 career double-doubles.

Freshman guard Ashton Moore scored 18 points and was joined in double figures by Mike Groselle (15 points) and DeVontae Wright (11 points), as rival Charleston Southern emerged with the 88-69 victory at McAlister Field House on Wednesday evening. The Bulldogs closed out the contest by hitting 30-of-68 (44.1%) from the field, including 6-of-14 (42.9%) from 3-point range, but it was Charleston Southern’s 19-of-31 (61.3%) shooting in the second half that made for the difference.

Mike Groselle posted his seventh straight double-double, 20 points and 19 rebounds, but it was College of Charleston that emerged victorious in the intracity rivalry, 83-64, at TD Arena on Thursday night. Groselle became just the third player in program history to post 19 rebounds or more in a double-double effort, tying previous marks set by Patrick Elmore (20 vs. Davidson; Feb. 20, 1990) and Regan Truesdale (19 vs. ETSU; March 10, 1983).

Citadel Head Coach Chuck Driesell’s second season at the helm will feature six teams that experienced postseason tournament action, according to the 2011-12 Basketball schedule released by the Athletics Department on Thursday. The Bulldogs will make two separate trips to Colorado, opening the season in the inaugural All Military Classic in Colorado Springs against VMI, followed by a December meeting with Denver University.

Hundley comes from a rich basketball family that includes second cousins Sean May (a National Championship winner at North Carolina in 2005) and Scott May (1976 National Championship winner at the University of Indiana, 1976 Olympic Gold Medalist).

Dylen Setzekorn spent last season improving his game at The Hun School (Princeton, N.J.) before becoming one of eight commitments in The Citadel Head Coach Chuck Driesell’s first signing class. Setzekorn was instrumental in leading The Hun School to victories in five of their last seven games, including three straight in the MAPL (Mid-Atlantic Prep League) Tournament, as the Raiders capped off a 12-14 season with a trip to the NJISAA (New Jersey Independent School Athletic Association) Tournament.

Power forward Jordan Robertson was one of two North Carolina players that Citadel Basketball Head Coach Chuck Driesell added during the early 2011 signing period, and like his Tar Heel state counterpart, Lawrence Miller, Robertson comes from a highly-acclaimed high school program. Robertson comes to The Citadel from Greensboro Day School, who has won at least 20 games in each of the last five seasons, including a 30-4 record during his freshman season.

In April, Citadel Head Basketball Coach Chuck Driesell announced his eighth commitment in the 2011-12 class, when Nansemond River High School guard Ashton Moore signed a National-Letter of Intent. Moore, a standout player named to the Virginia Coaches Association AAA All-Star Game, averaged 18 points, 4.3 assists and 4.3 rebounds in his senior season at Nansemond River.

Lawrence Miller was one of two players added from North Carolina during the fall signing period by Citadel Head Coach Chuck Driesell and his staff. Miller, a 6-1 guard from United Faith Christian Academy in Charlotte, is a heralded guard that captured the North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association (NCISAA) State Championship in the 2008-09 and 2009-10 seasons.

The early signing period brought The Citadel basketball program one of the most highly touted point guards in the state of Texas. Marshall Harris, a two-time All-District honoree from San Antonio’s William H. Taft High School, was a centerpiece of head coach Chuck Driesell’s 2011 recruiting class. Behind San Antonio Express Coach of the Year Joey Tate, Harris’ team reached the Final Four of the Texas Basketball State 5A Championships in 2011, the largest classification in the state. The three-year starter and two-time All-District recipient gained numerous accolades, including a nomination to the 2010-11 McDonald’s All-America Team.

One-on-one with Citadel Signee CJ Bray
Over the course of the next eight weeks, beginning with James Island High School product CJ Bray, we will take a one-on-one look at the freshmen on the 2011-12 Citadel Basketball team. Listed by ESPN as the 130th at the forward position, Bray averaged approximately 14 points and eight rebounds per game for James Island in his junior season. Under the direction of head coach Stan Wilkins, Bray averaged nearly 18 points and 10 rebounds during conference play to garner all-region recognition as a senior.
