“Molly Mae” Captures CFA’s Beautiful Bulldog Contest
Charleston, S.C. – "Molly Mae," owned by Veronica Schwartz of Georgetown, captured the top prize in The Citadel Football Association's Third Annual Beautiful Bulldog Contest on Saturday afternoon.
Held in conjunction with The Citadel football spring game, "Molly Mae" was voted the Most Beautiful Bulldog out of 31 English Bulldogs representing 14 cities that entered the pageant. "Bowie," owned by Vicki & Paul Gillis of Mt. Pleasant, was voted runner-up. Gillis is a former football player and is a member of The Citadel Athletic Hall of Fame.
"Dottie," owned by Jeremiah & Liz Bacon of Mt. Pleasant and who was featured in Southern Living and Charleston Wedding Magazine, was voted Ms. Congeniality while "Rose," the daughter of Citadel mascot "General" and who is owned by Fred & Donna Ducker of Murrels Inlet, was selected as runner-up.
In other categories, "Maximus," owned by Greg & Karry Bellamy of Mt. Pleasant and who captured last year's Beautiful Bulldog Contest, was named Mr. Personality while "Gunner," who possesses an impressive collection of stuffed pigs and who is owned by Sgt. Todd Stone of Beaufort, was the runner-up.
"Rudy Drooliani," a noted lizard hunter who is owned by Cindy & Mike Counts of Aiken, was voted the bulldog with the Best Smile as the runner-up was "Frank," owned by Cari Stafford of Mt. Pleasant. "Tank," owned by Charles Usry of Greenville, captured the Best Costume category with "Bubble," owned by Frank Moore of Mt. Pleasant, was runner-up.
The Best Tail Wagger went to "Butter," owned by Stefanie Sudduth of Daniel Island, while the runner-up went to "Ringo Starr IV," owned by Bob & Christyne Pride of Mt. Pleasant. "Charles Belvedere," owned by Shari Boyd of Forest, Va., was recognized as the bulldog which traveled the furthest.
The master of ceremonies for the contest was Richard Todd while the celebrity judges were Keke Collins of WCSC-TV, John Nugent of WCIV-TV and Bobby Hartin of ESPN Sports Radio.

2012 – "Maximus," owned by Greg & Karry Bellamy of Mt. Pleasant
