Game Quotes vs. Samford

The Samford Head Coach Pat Sullivan's Quotes

Coach Sullivan's comments on the game…

"As disappointed as I was a year ago, I was just as happy and proud of our players because they could have quit and given up, but they kept fighting. The defense and special teams made some big plays and the offense did a lot of nice things. We turned it over a couple of times and it really hurt us, but we also created some turnovers. That was the difference in the ball game."

"We made some plays when we had to. I was really happy for Dustin [Taliaferro] to get the touchdown after the game he had last week. He played well today."

"Coach Higgins did a great job with his team. We were talking before the game, this league is so competitive. It is a heck of a league."

Coach Sullivan's comments on Samford special team play…

"We felt like coming into the game, we had a chance to get some blocks on special teams. Corey [White] had one block and Alvin [Hines] had the last blocked field goal. Those were two huge plays."

Coach Sullivan's comments on the final drive…

"They got tired and we put the ball in Jeremiaha's [Gates] hands and he did a nice job. We were going to call a time out, but Taliaferro snapped the ball and got in the end zone."

Coach Sullivan's comments on the passing game…

"I knew Kelsey [Pope] caught a lot of balls based on their defensive formation. Taliaferro also did a tremendous job at reading the defense. Chris [Cephus] and Zeke [Walters] did a great job blocking and turned those plays into positive yards and that was huge."

Bulldog Head Coach Kevin Higgins' Quotes

Coach Higgins' comments on losing the last home game of the year…

"I was very disappointed. When the defense made the stop on fourth-and-one, our offense needed to hold onto the football. We got awfully close and ended up putting the ball on the ground. We had our chances."

Coach Higgins' comments on the blocked kicks…

"I was very disappointed. This is what happens when you get exposed by one team, other teams will try to come back and get you again. We knew our operation time was slow from the center back to the holder and that is something we have to fix."

Coach Higgins' comments on the kicking game…

"Our kicker is a senior and he will be leaving at the end of the season. We will look hard at the kicker and long snapper position. This is a critical area we have to adjust as we go through recruiting."

Coach Higgins' comments on The Citadel defense…

"We knew they were going to come out fast. The key is to try and stop them on third down and get some turnovers. They were mixing up their two back offense with their spread game. It was a challenge to defend them. The key is trying to find a way to get some turnovers."

Coach Higgins' comments on the last drive of the game…

"They were mixing up what they were doing with their personnel group. They were running the power play inside and they do that successfully. They were successful again on that last drive."

"I knew that they had a good field goal kicker and my thought was that they were going to get the ball down the field for the field goal. We had two opportunities to hold on to the ball and we didn't do that. That was the story of the game."

Coach Higgins' comments on upcoming South Carolina game…

"We have another football game and another week to work. We will continue to work hard and go out and compete on Saturday."
