The Citadel Returns Home to Face Presbyterian

Charleston, S.C. - The Citadel (1-1) will return to Johnson Hagood Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 18 to face the Presbyterian Blue Hose (0-2) on Sansom Field for the Bulldogs' only home night game of the season at 7 p.m. Bulldog fans can watch and listen to the game live on Bulldog Insider at www.CitadelSports.com or listen on ESPN Radio 910 The Team with the Voice of the Bulldogs Darren Goldwater and color analyst Walt Nadzak.

The Series
The Citadel leads the series against Presbyterian, which dates back to 1915, with a record of 49-11-1. The Bulldogs' most recent win was last season in a 46-21 home-opener at Johnson Hagood Stadium. The last time the Blue Hose claimed a win over the Bulldogs was on Sept. 8, 1979.

Last season's matchup was the first time The Citadel competed against Presbyterian in football in 18 years. Prior to the Sept. 26, 2009 meeting, the last time these teams met was Sept. 7, 1991, in a 33-10 Bulldog victory at Johnson Hagood Stadium. The Blue Hose were still a member of the NAIA at that time and the win capped a 10-game winning streak against Presbyterian that dated back to 1980.

The Citadel
The Citadel is coming off a 52-6 loss at No. 23 Arizona last Saturday. The Bulldogs, who traveled to Tucson, Ariz., managed to keep the game close for the first two quarters, but were unable to get into the end zone. True freshman Matt Thompson earned the starting role, but was later relieved by redshirt freshman Sam Martin who led the Bulldogs in their only two scoring drives. Sam Keeler's 39 and 23-yard field goals marked the first offensive points scored against the Wildcats this season, both coming in the second half.

The Bulldogs will continue to rely on several true freshmen this week as Thompson will return to the starting role against the Blue Hose. Running back Terrance Martin, who returned five kickoffs for 121 yards with a long of 31 against Arizona, will be the starting returner this week for the Bulldogs. Fifth-year senior defensive end Erik Clanton will look to dominate the Blue Hose offense, backed by a corps of junior linebackers in Tolu Akindele, Jerermy Buncum and Rod Hardland, while defensive backs Cortez Allen and safety Demetrius Jackson are sure to be a threat to the Blue Hose passing game.

Scouting the Blue Hose
Presbyterian, under the leadership of second-year head coach Harold Nichols, opened the 2010 season with matchups against FBS opponents Wake Forest and Clemson. The Blue Hose went 0-2 with final scores of 53-13 and 58-21, respectively.

The Demon Deacons held PC to 70 yards rushing. Miley and Gary combined effort at Clemson totaled 17-33-1 for 139 yards and two touchdowns in the air, while the Blue Hose totaled 140 yards on the ground.

Presbyterian, who went 0-11 last season, is looking to break a 16-game losing streak that dates back to the 2008 season. Their last win was a 31-28 victory against Liberty on Nov. 1, 2008. The Blue Hose return 51 lettermen, after losing 12. Of those 51, a total of 16 are starters.
