Bulldogs Conclude Week Three of Spring Practice
Charleston, S.C. - The Citadel Football wrapped up week three of spring workouts with a two-hour and 30-minute practice and scrimmage on Saturday at the Maybank Triplets Practice Facility.
After three periods of individual workouts, the team installed the kickoff return. They went live for a short yardage and goal segment and then worked on backed up situations from the minus 1-yard line. The team concluded practice with a move the ball scrimmage.
"Outside linebacker Rod Harland gets better and better each day. Our secondary is more disciplined and we have more depth up front," said Bulldog Head Coach Kevin Higgins following Saturday's scrimmage. "Domonic Jones has really stood out at the wide receiver position. At six-foot-five, the redshirt freshman is a big target and can catch the ball. I also have a feeling Terrell Dallas will be exceptional in this system and the best news of the day was we came out healthy despite all the hitting."
According to Higgins, the kickoff return unit was the most improved last year. "Special teams coordinator Aashon Larkins does an excellent job with fundamentals and techniques," Higgins added.
The Bulldogs started off the day with the normal 8 a.m. team meeting. Higgins said the team talked about the NCAA Basketball Tournament and the potential upsets that may occur.
"The comment was made it is not about talent, but passion that allow teams to do that," Higgins said. "The message then was how we could be more passionate about every area of our lives, from football, to our school, to each other. I know we have grown an awful lot from the events of the past couple of weeks. I reminded our players that every great revival our country has ever known started with passionate people. And we certainly brought plenty of passion to practice today."
The Bulldogs have three more spring practices remaining. The first two will take place on Tuesday and Friday afternoons at the Maybank Triplets Practice Facility followed by a Blue and White Scrimmage on Saturday morning at Johnson Hagood Stadium at 11 a.m.
