DOGS HOST UNC GREENSBORO IN KEY SOCON BATTLE THIS WEEKEND
The Citadel welcomes UNC Greensboro for a key Southern Conference series this weekend at Riley Park. Both clubs boast identical 4-8 records in league play and the winner of the weekend series will surge past the other in the SoCon standings and hold the ever-important tie-breaker over the loser. Friday's first pitch is set for 6 p.m., while Saturday and Sunday have 2 p.m. and 1 p.m. start times respectively.

LAST WEEK
Grayson Greiner's grand slam highlighted a six-run seventh inning as No. 9 South Carolina recorded 11 hits and blanked The Citadel 8-0 Tuesday evening at Carolina Stadium. The Gamecocks scored a pair of runs in the third to take a 2-0 lead. South Carolina broke the game open with a six-spot in the seventh to seal the victory. TJ Clarkson suffered the loss for the Bulldogs, falling to 1-3 on the year. Clarkson allowed two runs on four hits in three innings with three walks and one strikeout. Kevin Connell started the game for The Citadel, allowing two hits in two shutout frames. Mason Davis had two of the Bulldogs' five hits on the evening.

Coastal Carolina used a four-run fourth inning to rally past The Citadel on the way to a 6-2 victory over the Bulldogs Wednesday evening at Watson Stadium. Drew DeKerlegand went 3-for-3, while Nick Orvin added two hits for the Bulldogs, who out-hit Coastal nine to seven. Bryce Hines (0-3) took the loss, allowing five runs – three earned – on three hits in 3.2 innings with five walks and five strikeouts. James Reeves added 2.1 innings of no-hit relief with two strikeouts.

SCOUTING UNC GREENSBORO
Redshirt junior Lloyd Enzor has put together a solid season thus far as he has sent five balls out of the ballpark and amassed 20 RBI, which is fourth-best on the team. The Whiteville, N.C. native, is second on the team with three sacrifice flies and is tied for second on the team with 21 runs scored. He sits third with 117 at-bats on the year and eight doubles. While batting .274, Enzor is fourth with 32 hits and 55 total bases. Like last year, the Spartans are thriving on "small ball" and currently lead the nation with 57 sacrifice bunts on the season. Cambric Moye leads the team with 12 while Christian Wolfe and Kris Richards have eight. Bobby Martin and Thomas Troelstrup have chimed in with seven.

THE 700 CLUB
Head coach Fred Jordan is just one victory away from becoming the 36th active member of the 700-club of NCAA Division I baseball head coaches that have recorded 700 career victories. Jordan had 686 victories entering this, his 21st, season of Citadel baseball.

ORVIN CLIMBING THE CHARTS
Senior Nick Orvin is steadily making his mark on the Bulldogs' record book in his final season. The Moncks Corner, S.C. native is posed to overtake the top spot in the career runs and hits charts this season.

TWO SELECTED PRESEASON ALL-SOCON; BULLDOGS PICKED EIGHTH
Drew DeKerlegand was selected to the Southern Conference preseason all-conference first team and Nick Orvin was chosen to the all-conference second team, as voted on by the league's 11 head coaches. The Citadel was picked to finish eighth in both the coaches' and media preseason polls.

A FRESH LOOK
With 18 newcomers this season, The Citadel will feature a new look in several areas this season. The entire middle of the infield will be experiencing their first playing time in college as freshmen Bailey Rush and Johnathan Stokes will battle for the starting spot at short and Mason Davis has grabbed the spot at second. Two freshmen are likely to see significant time in starting pitching roles as Kevin Connell and James Reeves toe the rubber. With the loss of a handful of members of the last season's bullpen, several first-year players are expected to contribute in that area as well.
