April 22, 2006

Charleston, S.C. - The Citadel-Western Carolina baseball game scheduled for Saturday, April 22 at Riley Park has been postponed due to the threat of inclement weather. After being moved up to noon from 2 p.m., the game will now be part of a doubleheader on Sunday, April 23 with first pitch slated for noon.

The Bulldogs earned a 5-4 win over the Catamounts in game one of the three-game set on Friday, April 21. Freshman Wes Wrenn earned his third win of the season as he tossed seven innings, allowing three runs on nine hits. The right-hander also registered seven strikeouts, only one shy of his career-high eight Ks.

Junior closer Link Saunders, who was named to the NCBWA's midseason Stopper of the Year watch list this past week, earned his 11th save of the season. The Irmo, S.C. native surpassed Trip Blanton to take control of the sixth spot all-time in career saves with 15, while moving into third on the single-season chart.

Freshman designated hitter Sonny Meade tied his career-high three hits as he was 3-for-5, including an RBI and scoring once.

The Dogs will look to earn their second conference series win on Sunday as the Bulldogs and Catamounts get underway at noon in Riley Park. Game two of the doubleheader will follow shortly afterward.
