SPARTANBURG, S.C. – After sparking a comeback effort from The Citadel Saturday night, senior linebacker Noah Dawkins was selected as the Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Week Monday afternoon.
Â
Dawkins is the first Bulldog to win the defensive award since Jonathan King was honored following the 30-20 victory at VMI in 2016.
Â
With the Bulldogs trailing 21-0 late in the second quarter, Dawkins stepped in front of a pass for his first career interception. The turnover resulted in the first points of the game for The Citadel as Lorenzo Ward scored three plays later.
Â
The momentum carried into the second half as Dawkins's second interception was a mirror image of the first one. Only this time, Dawkins was able to stay on his feet and return it 47 yards for the touchdown.
Â
He would finish the game with a pair of tackles, including a nine yard tackle-for-loss.
