SPARTANBURG, S.C. – After sparking a comeback effort from The Citadel Saturday night, senior linebacker
Noah Dawkins was selected as the Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Week Monday afternoon.
Dawkins is the first Bulldog to win the defensive award since
Jonathan King was honored following the 30-20 victory at VMI in 2016.
With the Bulldogs trailing 21-0 late in the second quarter, Dawkins stepped in front of a pass for his first career interception. The turnover resulted in the first points of the game for The Citadel as
Lorenzo Ward scored three plays later.
The momentum carried into the second half as Dawkins's second interception was a mirror image of the first one. Only this time, Dawkins was able to stay on his feet and return it 47 yards for the touchdown.
He would finish the game with a pair of tackles, including a nine yard tackle-for-loss.
