Root Takes Fifth Place at 40th Annual Navy Classic

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel wrestling team competed in the 40^th annual Navy Classic on Saturday, Nov. 18 at the Wesley Brown Field House in Annapolis, Md.

Sixteen teams along with the Bulldogs competed in the tournament on Saturday - American, Brown, Bucknell, Campbell, Columbia, Delaware Valley, George Mason, Hofstra, Indiana, (RV) Kent State, Navy, Ohio, Old Dominion, Oregon State, Princeton and No. 22 Purdue

Junior Sawyer Root earned a fifth-place finish in the 197-pound weight class. Root defeated Bucknell's Joe Scott by an 8-2 decision before dropping the quarterfinal match by fall to Kyle Conel from Kent State in 1 minute, 29 seconds.

The Bulldogs will take a break during the Thanksgiving holiday and return to action when they travel to Hempstead, New York, for the Hofstra Duals on Sunday, Dec. 3. Full tournament results will be available at CitadelSports.com.
