Cam Jackson Named National Freshman of the Week

PHILADELPHIA - Citadel slot back Cam Jackson added to his award list on Tuesday when he was named The Sports Network FCS Co-Freshman of the Week. He shared the honor with wide receiver Jake Wieneke of South Dakota State.

Jackson, a redshirt freshman from Mobile, Ala., enjoyed his first career 100-yard rushing game in a 63-56 double overtime win over Charlotte at Johnson Hagood Stadium. He carried 12 times for 116 yards, an average of 9.7 yards per carry, and scored two touchdowns.

In addition to his rushing performance, Jackson caught a team-high four passes for 49 yards and returned four kickoffs for another 76 yards, giving him a total of 241 all-purpose yards. His touchdowns came from 10 and nine yards out in the first quarter to jumpstart the Bulldog offense in what turned into a record-breaking afternoon.

Originally a quarterback when he came to The Citadel, Jackson has played in all six games with four starts. He is fourth on the team with 288 rushing yards, averages 7.2 yards per carry and has scored three touchdowns. He also leads the Bulldogs with eight receptions and averages 20.0 yards on five kickoff returns.

Jackson and the Bulldogs are back in action on Saturday when they host Chattanooga in a Southern Conference game beginning at noon. The game will be televised by the American Sports Network (see link here for stations showing the contest) and can also be heard on The Citadel Sports Network.
