February 2, 2012 Men's Basketball Groselle, Miller Spark Citadel Offense in Tough 82-71 Road Loss at UNCG The combination of Citadel scorers Mike Groselle (20 pts.) and Lawrence Miller (15 pts.) led the way for the Bulldogs, who suffered a difficult 82-71 loss at UNC Greensboro in Southern Conference action on Thursday evening. Groselle posted his seventh 20-point game in conference play this season, hitting 7-of-15 from the floor to go along with eight rebounds. Miller countered with a 4-of-7 performance, draining 3-of-5 from 3-point range, en route to his fourth career double-digit outing. UNCG was sparked by the play of Trevis Simpson (23 pts.), Derrell Armstrong (14 pts.), Aloysius Henry (13 pts.) and Korey Van Dussen (11 pts.).

January 28, 2012 Men's Basketball Groselle Posts 19th Career Double-Double as Furman Holds on to Earn 67-58 Win The Citadel’s Mike Groselle scored a game-high 24 points to go along with 11 rebounds, marking his 19th career double-double, but it was Furman’s late game heroics that allowed the Paladins to come through with a 67-58 victory at McAlister Field House on Saturday evening. Groselle moved into a second place tie with former Citadel standouts J’Mel Everhart (19 career double-doubles) and Regan Truesdale’s (10 single-season double-doubles). Meanwhile, the Paladins were energized by the trio of Colin Reddick (12 points), Bobby Austin (11 points) and Brandon Sebirumbi (10 points). The game included a halftime ceremony for Jake Burrows (’40), whose No. 3 jersey was honored placed in the rafters in honor of his contributions to the success of the Bulldog Basketball program.

January 26, 2012 Men's Basketball Holston’s Solid Performance Unable to Topple Terriers as Bulldogs Fall 62-55 Citadel redshirt junior Bo Holston scored a team-high 14 points in reserve, one short of a career-high, but it was four double figure scorers that pushed Wofford to a 62-55 victory at McAlister Field House on Thursday evening. Holston energized the Bulldogs lineup by hitting 5-of-8 from the floor, including a 3-pointer, while making his impact defensively with one steal and one block. His counterpart, the Terriers Karl Cochran, took home game-high honors, scoring 18 points behind a 7-of-13 shooting performance. Cochran knocked down four 3-pointers, all in the second half, as Wofford ran its streak to 11 straight in the series.

Groselle’s performance marked the third straight 20-point outing and fourth in his last five games. January 14, 2012 Men's Basketball Groselle Nets Game-High 22 Points in 67-66 Heartbreaker Against UNC Greensboro In a game where the lead changed hands four times in the final 18 seconds as UNC Greensboro came away with a game-winning dunk by Trevis Simpson to down The Citadel, 67-66, in front of a shocked crowd at McAlister Field House. In the waning seconds of the game, the Dogs DeVontae Wright hit a long jumper from just inside the 3-point line for the apparent winner, before an official review gave the Spartans 0.9 seconds which eventually turned into 0.5 seconds following a Citadel deflection. That deflection led to the Simpson score, following an in-bounds pass from Drew Parker, cinching the Spartan victory.
January 14, 2012 Bulldog Wrestling Places Eighth at Virginia Duals Turtogtokh Luvsandorj, Kelby Smith and Odie Delaney all went a perfect 5-0 over the weekend as The Citadel wrestling team placed eighth out of 14 teams at the Virginia Duals held at the Hampton Coliseum. The Bulldogs opened the second day of action with a 22-15 win over North Carolina before dropping a 19-18 heart-breaker on a tiebreaker to North Dakota State and losing in the seventh-place bout to the University of Buffalo 24-15.

Groselle scored 25 points to tie his career-high and by virtue of finishing 10-for-10 from the floor set a program record that was previously held by John Sutor and Ted Mosay for highest field goal percentage. Meanwhile, Morabbi established a new career-high, 20 points, to go along with six assists and four steals. It marks the third time in the last five games that Morabbi has topped double figures for the Dogs.

January 6, 2012 Men's Basketball The Citadel Hosts Samford in First SoCon Home Game of Season When The Citadel takes to the court against Samford on Saturday, Jan. 7, it will not only mark the sixth home game, but also the first Southern Conference home contest of the 2011-12 campaign. The Citadel is looking to snap a five-game losing streak in conference play, dating back to the 2010-11 season, when the two teams tipoff at 7:05 p.m. at McAlister Field House. The two teams have met on eight previous occasions, since the 1991-92 season, with the Cadets holding a 6-2 edge in the all-time series.

August 24, 2011 Men's Basketball Former Citadel Standouts Wells and Nelson Ink Professional Contracts The Citadel’s Demetrius Nelson and Cameron Wells, who have collectively led the team in scoring in five of the last six seasons, will continue their careers professionally in the 2011-12 season. Nelson recently signed a contract with Kapfenberg of the Austria 1 League, while Wells agreed to terms with Dutch League’s Landstede Basketbal team.

August 22, 2011 Women's Soccer Bulldogs Downed, 1-0, in Battle Against Clemson Senior goalkeeper Laura Serafino’s five saves on 24 shots was not enough as The Citadel Women’s Soccer team dropped their season-opener against Clemson, 1-0, on Monday in a defensive bout. The game marked the first meeting between the two schools in program history.

The Citadel's class of 2015 marks the fifth consecutive year the school has enrolled a freshman class of more the 700 students - a first in the college's 169-year-history. The Citadel had between 725 and 750 freshmen report for academic orientation and military training over the weekend, and classes begin on Wednesday.

August 14, 2011 Reed Becomes the New Voice of the Bulldogs The Citadel Athletics Department, in conjunction with Kirkman Broadcasting, has announced Danny Reed will replace Darren Goldwater as the Director of Broadcasting and “Voice of the Bulldogs.” Reed, who spent the last three years as The Citadel Sports Network studio host and fill-in announcer, assumes the role from Goldwater, who resigned to pursue a variety of television play by play assignments.

In addition, Bill Mottola, of Miami University (Ohio), has been selected as the new slot back coach as Higgins has promoted offensive line coach Bob Bodine to offensive coordinator.

Marshall Harris, a two-time All-District honoree from San Antonio’s William H. Taft High School, was a centerpiece of head coach Chuck Driesell’s 2011 recruiting class. Behind San Antonio Express Coach of the Year Joey Tate, Harris’ team reached the Final Four of the Texas Basketball State 5A Championships in 2011, the largest classification in the state. The Bulldogs and Blue Hose will meet at 4 p.m. on Saturday and again for a doubleheader beginning at noon on Sunday. The third game of the series will follow approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of the opening game on Sunday. Please note all times and games were altered this week from the original schedule to final examinations at The Citadel.
