January 26, 2012 Men's Basketball Holston’s Solid Performance Unable to Topple Terriers as Bulldogs Fall 62-55 Citadel redshirt junior Bo Holston scored a team-high 14 points in reserve, one short of a career-high, but it was four double figure scorers that pushed Wofford to a 62-55 victory at McAlister Field House on Thursday evening. Holston energized the Bulldogs lineup by hitting 5-of-8 from the floor, including a 3-pointer, while making his impact defensively with one steal and one block. His counterpart, the Terriers Karl Cochran, took home game-high honors, scoring 18 points behind a 7-of-13 shooting performance. Cochran knocked down four 3-pointers, all in the second half, as Wofford ran its streak to 11 straight in the series.

Meanwhile, Wofford (12-8, 5-3 SoCon) is in the midst of a three-game winning streak that includes victories over Georgia Southern, Appalachian State and Furman.
January 23, 2012 Men's Basketball Groselle Registers Third Straight 20-point outing in 78-72 Double Overtime Downing at Georgia Southern Led by Mike Groselle’s 10th double-double of the season, 20 points and 14 rebounds, The Citadel extended Georgia Southern to double overtime before the Eagles emerged with a 78-72 victory at Hanner Fieldhouse on Monday evening. Groselle’s performance marked the third straight 20-point outing and fourth in his last five games. Coincedentally he has now recorded 18 career double-doubles and 10 in the 2011-12 campaign, moving within two of Patrick Elmore (1989-90) for most in a single-season in program history.
January 23, 2012 Bulldog Rifle Fires a Second Place Score of 2260 in SEARC 5 Competition Junior captain Julia McCullohs led all Bulldog shooters in Saturday’s match with an air rifle score of 568 en route to a second place finish at the fifth Southeastern Air Rifle Conference match of the season at Inouye Marksmanship Center on Saturday. The Cadets finished with a SEARC team total of 2,260, a mere 44 points behind first place N.C. State (2,304).

The two teams, who tip-off at Hanner Fieldhouse at 7 p.m., have been involved in 25 games decided by nine points or less in the storied all-time series that dates back to Dec. 20, 1960. Georgia Southern (7-11, 5-3 SoCon) is looking to build on the momentum from a five-point victory over College of Charleston, while the Bulldogs (4-14, 1-6 SoCon) are hoping to rebound from a loss at Davidson on Saturday evening.

January 14, 2012 Men's Basketball Groselle Nets Game-High 22 Points in 67-66 Heartbreaker Against UNC Greensboro In a game where the lead changed hands four times in the final 18 seconds as UNC Greensboro came away with a game-winning dunk by Trevis Simpson to down The Citadel, 67-66, in front of a shocked crowd at McAlister Field House. In the waning seconds of the game, the Dogs DeVontae Wright hit a long jumper from just inside the 3-point line for the apparent winner, before an official review gave the Spartans 0.9 seconds which eventually turned into 0.5 seconds following a Citadel deflection. That deflection led to the Simpson score, following an in-bounds pass from Drew Parker, cinching the Spartan victory.
January 14, 2012 Bulldog Wrestling Places Eighth at Virginia Duals Turtogtokh Luvsandorj, Kelby Smith and Odie Delaney all went a perfect 5-0 over the weekend as The Citadel wrestling team placed eighth out of 14 teams at the Virginia Duals held at the Hampton Coliseum. The Bulldogs opened the second day of action with a 22-15 win over North Carolina before dropping a 19-18 heart-breaker on a tiebreaker to North Dakota State and losing in the seventh-place bout to the University of Buffalo 24-15.

Groselle scored 25 points to tie his career-high and by virtue of finishing 10-for-10 from the floor set a program record that was previously held by John Sutor and Ted Mosay for highest field goal percentage. It marks the third time in the last five games that Morabbi has topped double figures for the Dogs.

December 14, 2011 Men's Basketball Moore Scores 18 Points in Tough Loss to Cross-Town Rival Bucs, 88-69 Freshman guard Ashton Moore scored 18 points and was joined in double figures by Mike Groselle (15 points) and DeVontae Wright (11 points), as rival Charleston Southern emerged with the 88-69 victory at McAlister Field House on Wednesday evening. The Bulldogs closed out the contest by hitting 30-of-68 (44.1%) from the field, including 6-of-14 (42.9%) from 3-point range, but it was Charleston Southern’s 19-of-31 (61.3%) shooting in the second half that made for the difference.

Robertson comes to The Citadel from Greensboro Day School, who has won at least 20 games in each of the last five seasons, including a 30-4 record during his freshman season.

Moore, a standout player named to the Virginia Coaches Association AAA All-Star Game, averaged 18 points, 4.3 assists and 4.3 rebounds in his senior season at Nansemond River.

Political columnist George Will, one of the most fascinating journalists in America, is the speaker for the Corps’ commencement while Dr. Gene Budig, the last president of Major League Baseball’s American League and a co-owner of the Charleston RiverDogs, will deliver the address for the Graduate College. Both speakers are headliners, and graduates should remember for a very long time who their speakers are. Might you remember who spoke at your graduation? Good news abounds as two football players – Cortez Allen and Erik Clanton – were drafted by professional leagues. Baseball, which is on a five-game winning streak, continues this weekend with a key series against Elon at Riley Park. May 5, 2011 Baseball Bulldogs Host First Place Elon in Final Home Series of 2011 The Citadel Baseball team returns to Southern Conference action in their final home series of the season when they host first place Elon at Riley Park this weekend. All three games will be doubleheaders with the Charleston RiverDogs, beginning Friday at 4 p.m. Saturday’s contest is set for 3 p.m., following graduation at The Citadel and the series finale will be on Sunday at 1 p.m. as eight Bulldog seniors are set to be honored on Senior Day.

The Bulldogs and Blue Hose will meet at 4 p.m. on Saturday and again for a doubleheader beginning at noon on Sunday. The third game of the series will follow approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of the opening game on Sunday. The Citadel men’s team concluded the meet in fifth place with 48 points, while the women finished in ninth place with 20 points.

However, that joy is temporarily placed on hold as exams loom in the immediate future. The baseball team is hitting the ball well, but is having a time putting a complete game together and Friday and Saturday’s non-conference games against USC-Upstate are very important. The tennis and golf teams have completed their schedules, which means only baseball and outdoor track and field activities continue.
