First Pitch!
Summer School and several sports camps continue and many of our coaches and staffers are enjoying their vacations. Otherwise, it has been relatively quiet in and around McAlister Field House.
Please consider this a final reminder that if you have a nomination for The Citadel Athletic Hall of Fame or wish to submit a letter of endorsement for a candidate, please forward the letters and all inquiries to Associate Athletics Director Andy Solomon (843/953-6300; andy.solomon@citadel.edu) as the HofF Committee meets early next month.
As you’ve come to expect, we have another solid issue of news and notes, so enjoy and Go Bulldogs!!!

Women’s Football 101 Returns for Third Year
The Citadel Football Association will present the Third Annual Women’s Football Clinic on Friday, July 27 at Seignious Hall on campus.
The experience is open to ladies and teenage girls only. Registration is 5-6 pm and the event runs from 6-9 pm. Advance cost is $50 per person or two for $85, and $75 for on-site registration.
Attendees to Football 101 will spend time going behind-the-scenes with tours of the team’s meeting room, weight room, and training and equipment rooms. Citadel coaches will provide instruction on the basics of the game as well as the option offense that is currently being utilized by the Bulldogs. Participants will also get in-depth instruction in player positions, walking through plays in addition to offensive and defensive strategies.
A catered dinner for all attendees will be held at the Pearson Lounge at Johnson Hagood Stadium. A special program will follow with Kay Higgins, wife of head coach Kevin Higgins, and other of the coaches’ wives, in addition to a tour of the press box area.
Prior to the dinner, the group will “hit” the stadium field for a “practice” that includes running plays, passing and receiving, tackling dummies and the all-important “fun run to the end zone,” where one can perform individual touchdown dances.
Goody bags for all attendees contain a T-shirt, a complete football information notebook, a 2012 souvenir schedule poster and wallet schedule, and two reserved-seat tickets ($50 value) to a Citadel home football game.
Last year, more than 50 women enjoyed a memorable time and learned enough about football to impress even their husbands and/or male friends.
A portion of the clinic is tax deductible as proceeds benefit The Citadel Football Association’s Scholarship through The Citadel Brigadier Foundation.
