CHARLESTON, S.C. - Despite five 3-pointers from Austin Dahn, The Citadel was unable to overcome the post presence of UNC Greensboro in a 59-53 loss at McAlister Field House. The loss snaps a season-long five-game winning streak by the Bulldogs, all coming in the month of February, Dahn, who netted a team-high 17 points, hit five treys for the fifth time in his career and second time on the season. He was joined by Cameron Wells, whose 14 points moved him into third place on the all-time scoring list with 1,433. Wells led the way with eight assists and six rebounds, including five on the defensive glass.

The presence of Ben Stywall, who registered a double-double with 19 points and 14 rebounds, proved decisive for the visiting Spartans. UNCG held a 24-20 scoring advantage in the paint, along with a 41-24 edge on the boards. Stywall became the school's single-season leading rebounder, passing Eric Cuthrell's 15-year-old record. Teammate Mikko Koivisto finished with 18 points, including a perfect 4-of-4 from the charity stripe. As a unit, UNC Greensboro knocked down 20-of-50 (40%) field goal attempts, despite being held to 4-of-15 (26.7%) from beyond the arc. The Spartans improve to 6-21, 5-11.

The Citadel heads into the final week of the regular season at 15-13 overall, 9-7 in SoCon play. Bryan Streeter and Zach Urbanus finished with seven points apiece, with Streeter adding five caroms. Four Bulldogs knocked down a 3-pointer led by Dahn's five. Others included Urbanus, Harrison DuPont and Bo Holston's second of the campaign. As a team, the 'Dogs finished 8-for-22 (36.4%) from beyond the arc which accounted for 20-of-52 (38.5%) from the field.

Trailing by one point at the intermission, a balanced attack by The Citadel's starting five accounted for a 15-11 run to open the second half. Led by Dahn's eight points, along with four points from Wells and three each from DuPont and Urbanus, they regained the lead, 41-35, in the first 6:16 of the half.

The UNCG offense was sparked by three consecutive 3-pointers from Koivisto, Kyle Randall and Kendall Toney, to regain the lead, 44-43 with 9:20 remaining. It proved to be a lead that they would not relinquish, as Stywall went on to score seven of the final 15 Spartan points.

The Bulldogs drew within five points on two occasions in the final 3:20 on a jumper by Wells, however UNCG knocked down seven free-throws to make for the 59-53 final.

Wells and Dahn shared a team-high six points at the half, followed closely by Streeter's four points and three rebounds.

The Citadel jumped out to an early 9-4 lead, at the 16:14 mark, before a quick 6-0 rally gave UNCG its first lead. After a five minute scoring drought, Wells helped the 'Dogs regain the lead, 11-10 on a pair of free throws.

The game changed hands four times before Holston's 3-pointer tied the game, 18-18, with 3:23 remaining in the opening half.
